Following the desperately sad news of the passing of former Manchester City captain and manager Tony Book, we reflect on and pay tribute to the remarkable career of a true Club icon. 🩵

A pretty damning first five years of Brexit, quantified here rather neatly.

Musk’s journey from mostly harmless oddball centrist to committed supporter of fascists is neither interesting nor original. But if the world’s richest man and supposed greatest genius can fall victim to such cringeworthy radicalisation, millions of others can too.

Note how Telegraph invokes Trump's view of PM's energy policy and Musk's (very factually contested) view of his CPS record as LEAD front page items... skewing coverage from a right wing US perspective to drive clicks and position.

I’m afraid that I completely agree with @johnkampfner. I cannot understand why this subject has been leading #BBC TV news bulletins. It is a story, but not in my view a story with which to lead bulletins. Priorities, judgment matter.
Oafish behaviour of ridiculous cooking bloke top story for days. With all that's going on in the world - US, MidEast, Ukraine, unrest in Georgia, elections in Ireland, Romania - seen from afar UK media ever more woefully parochial, led sadly by @BBCNews

What’s the point being made here? The Chancellor is the government's chief financial minister so of course she should be reading The Economist & The Financial Times - both of which by the way are legitimate expenses
🚨 NEW: Chancellor Rachel Reeves has charged taxpayers £371 for subscriptions to The Economist and The Financial Times since March

This #Panorama #SmartMeter episode is a great illustration of why the Government has never backed a subscription based BBC. Everyone's home, internet and TV setup is *different*, so it would cost billions to get around this nationwide. It will never happen in my lifetime I reckon

It still seems feasible that the Tories will ultimately come round to a Rejoin stance before head-in-sand Labour, still kneecapped by "Make Brexit Work".

It doesn’t mean we can’t limit the damage because the 1,5 degree max target is an average over 20 Years but getting here this soon is really not good news. Denying Climate Chaos won’t stop it happening. Words do lots of things but they won’t fix this.
Wow. Truly horrifying. I’m so sorry for young people that we’ve failed you beyond expression. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c1dp…

Never has this been truer. Labour needs to step up, wake up, show up, and get us back on the path to EU membership, in whatever form can be agreed. Blair was right then and is right now. Come on, sort yourselves out. Your economic growth doesn’t exist.

I don't think I have heard a single journalist mention climate change in the last 24 hours following Donald Trump's victory. This is madness.

Today, I asked the Prime Minister about how he plans to address President-elect Trump's troubling praise for Putin's illegal invasion of Ukraine and his reckless stance on NATO. The UK must lead in Europe to ensure strong support for Ukraine and uphold our shared security.

Well done @EdwardJDavey for asking the question at #PMQs we should all be having an open and honest discussion on right now
With warning’s Trump tariffs could halve UK growth & push up prices @EdwardJDavey asked @Keir_Starmer at #PMQs if he “recognized it’s more urgent than ever to get rid of the damaging trade barriers with Europe put in place by the Conservatives?” Sit down for the PM’s reply

This is how dictators destroy free nations. They threaten those who speak against them with death. We cannot entrust our country and our freedom to a petty, vindictive, cruel, unstable man who wants to be a tyrant. #Womenwillnotbesilenced #VoteKamala

Most of the questions directed at Labour this week have been fair. The party was really disingenuous in its election messaging on tax, because it did not have the bravery to say what it knew to be true. But I wish the questions directed at the Tories were more specific.

Whilst this helps brewers/cider makers (but disproportionately benefits huge producers) it is NOT “a penny off a pint in a pub” with other costs rising! 🤬 That’s economically illiterate nonsense. NI & wage rises hugely outstrip any benefit (which in any case goes to producers)
The Chancellor announces a draught Alcohol Duty cut of 1.7% for draught products, with duty rates on non-draught products increasing in line with RPI from February next year.
