It is absolutely incredible that the president of the United States still has no idea what a trade deficit is.
If I go to the grocery store & spend $30 on vegetables, I haven't "LOST" $30. I’ve gained vegetables I’d otherwise have to grow myself. Staggering economic illiteracy.
I can understand why ordinary voters are attracted to the racism and authoritarianism. I don’t think I’ll ever understand why they are drawn to the bullying, narcissism and sheer petty vindictiveness.

What is the point, ultimately, to making a trade deal with someone who threatens every 2-3 days either to "cut off trade" or increase the cost of trade over whatever issue happens to have pissed him off this morning? Talking to the EU? Tariffs. Joined the BRICS? Tariffs. Russian oil purchases? Tariffs. No access to bases? Tariffs. Didn't do X, Y, or Z? Tariffs. And now we have progressed from tariffs to "no more trade." There's just no real credibility to a policy instrument if you either overuse it, use it for anything and everything, or are just all over the place.
Such sad news. Bonnie was one of the sharpest, most charismatic and engaging people I’ve ever met. The very best embodiment of a public intellectual. She will be greatly missed.

If Ed Sheeran's opening act had waved an Israeli flag and proclaimed his love of Israel -- and then a cartel of rich venue owners banned him from appearing -- we would have a two-month orgy of people screaming ANTI-SEMITISM, with Mike Johnson holding emergency House hearings featuring Jonathan Greenblatt and Dana Bash and Jake Tapper crying with Van Jones on CNN about how dangerous America has become for Jews.

Folks, you can't have it both ways. You can't say "it is antisemitic to associate British Jews with Israeli policies" and in the same breath, say that "countering Israeli policies puts British Jews at risk". You see how this associates British Jews with Israeli policies, right?
It’s worth pointing out how wild it is that Israel can close down a UK consulate in territory not part of Israel and not serving Israeli people. It simply highlights the obscene normalisation of Israel’s occupation, and the vastly overdue necessity of a British response.

The Metropolitan Police will carry out a criminal investigation into allegations that Reform UK breached donation rules with potential illegal foreign funding
Detectives from the force’s special inquiry team will carry out a full inquiry after an undercover sting. Nigel Farage, Reform’s leader, suspended two of his closest political allies on Friday after the allegations were broadcast by Channel 4 News
Dan Jukes, a long-serving Farage aide, appeared to try to solicit an impermissible £500,000 donation from an undercover journalist. James Orr, the party’s head of policy, got the reporter to pay £32,500 for polling commissioned by Reform even though he appeared aware that the source of the funds was a prohibited donor.
The Met has been assessing the allegations since the broadcast on Thursday. The force is now conducting a full criminal inquiry
Reform has denied wrongdoing, saying it was the victim of a hoax. Farage said the two men had been victims of entrapment
