We’re excited to share the beta release of our tool use API!
Now developers can easily equip any LLM with hosted open-source tools for web search, web crawling, and maps data (+ more coming soon).
Under the hood, it's powered by MCP — but that's just an implementation detail ↓
.@AnthropicAI sent a "request for startups" in MCP at @aiDotEngineer
- MCP servers in new domains (outside developer tools)
- Make building servers easier
- AI application security (see: tool poisoning)

ALT RFS: Request for startups Servers servers servers • Servers beyond devtools – sales, finance, legal, education • Agents as servers Simplify server building • Hosting/testing/deployment tooling – both enterprise & indie hackers • Automated MCP server generation AI security/observability/auditing stack
A small reminder from the presenter xitter.cf/chu_onthis/status/1926…
The registry and CLI (>= v0.0.15) now support @code as a destination for installing MCP servers.
Thanks to @ConnorPeet from team VS Code for contributing the change!

[New post] 🔥A Deep Dive Into MCP and the Future of AI Tooling
APIs were the internet’s first great unifier but AI models lack an equivalent. What are the use cases of MCPs today? Where are the challenges?
Here's a technical deep dive & map of the current ecosystem 👇
.@AnthropicAI will support stateless remote MCP servers with “just HTTP” as transport.
We’re quite excited about this! So we gave a “lightning talk” at an MCP meetup hosted by @paulgb @CloudflareDev yesterday.
It matters because the effort to turn existing REST APIs into more LLM-friendly MCP servers will get that much easier:
- No new endpoints required (no /sse)
- More options to deploy (serverless)

The SOTA model changes every month. Model providers are incentivized to create lock-in by offering "walled garden" functionality.
OpenTools aims to give you optionality in both your models and your tools.
Our incentive is to help make your apps resilient to provider outages.
This wouldn’t be possible without MCP and its fast-growing community.
We hope to help deliver on its promise of augmenting LLMs with the “shortest path” to value.

Here’s our “MCP FAQ” in response to some recent posts about MCP. If anything could be better explained or if you’re @dsp_, please chime in ↓

> What are the opportunities?
More *high quality* MCP servers needed. Particularly for systems of record like @QuickBooks.
Agents authenticating on behalf of their users still needs battle-testing: github.com/modelcontextproto…

A server that agentically searches and then summarizes the web/reddit/etc.
An agent that combines data sources to create news articles just for me in the morning
Those will want sampling unless you want to require users to bring their own keys.
Yesterday @AnthropicAI announced the official MCP registry API at @aiDotEngineer 🎉
This is fantastic news for us because we’ve wanted *the* source of truth. We made opentools.com/registry on day 1 to fill that gap for the community.
Here’s what the API means for MCP and us...
It’s an honor anytime we see an OpenTools link shared. We will keep this service up free of charge forever, so long as it makes sense.
MCP isn’t a perfect protocol (neither are HTTP/TCP) but it's uniting on a standard that’s important.
(Lest we make the XKCD comic our reality.)
The recording is live (announcement at 1:22:00): xitter.cf/aiDotEngineer/status/1…
The highly-anticipated MCP workshop with @MaheshMurag is now live!
Join @AnthropicAI Applied AI Engineer (+ creator of MCP) @MaheshMurag in this full 2-hour workshop covering the Model Context Protocol, where he covers:
00:00 Introduction
00:35 What is MCP?
09:39 Building with MCP
26:25 MCP & Agents
1:13:15 What's next for MCP?
YT version in next post.
> How does MCP do on the confetti benchmark?
Glad you asked.
