I'm so pleased this piece of audio has made it into the public domain. It demonstrates that several Christian leaders heard rumours about Mike Pilavachi years ago and, instead of raising it with safeguarding/trustees etc, they went quietly to Mike to let him know.

I really like Megan (and she did stellar work) but I refused to do the podcast unless they would let me criticize the Magazine itself for its role in helping prop up and platform all these twerps.

Something very disturbing about all of this with the image that it presents of the naked male & pumped body posted the day after Scolding reports on Mike Pilivachi & his abuse. We are a long way here from John the Baptist, the wild ascetic & acerbic man on the edge calling us to justice & baptizing the Christ and the masculinity that they both present us.
It might seem a bit soon to be baptizing people, but the Apostles did it on day one, so here we are.

I feel troubled about this statement regarding the Scolding review from the UK’s leading Christian safeguarding charity.
The independent review into Soul Survivor by Fiona Scolding KC and Ben Fullbrook has been published today. Find out more here: ow.ly/K1J350Tw4iy

Exactly this. A reminder that what I experienced began when I was 16.

No acknowledgment that without social media, and print media, none of this would have come to light in this way and he likely would not have been held to account in any meaningful way.

Side note: I’m not sure it is a problem as such that people have expressed opinions on social media? Obviously sometimes people are crass, deceitful or wrong on social media. But if social media didn’t exist, they would do it in their heads anyway. 13/

And they made no attempt to contact me whatsoever. I know at least two other victims who that is also true for.
I have had the KC report of Mike Pilavachi for 24 hours now and I am so disappointed and crushed by its inadequacy. It repeats back to victims the same tired excuses we’ve heard for decades.

We surveyed 7000 predominantly evangelical women for our book She Deserves Better, looking at how experiences in church as teens affected teens long-term. We found that attending a church with strict modesty teachings was correlated with increased chances of sexual abuse.

I thought most Christians saw Jesus as being on the side of the poor, the weak, the victims. So why is Nicky Gumbel (founder of The Alpha Course and member of The Alliance group of C of E churches) retweeting Russell Brand? (well spotted, @aliwilkin ) (1/x)

Jonathan Fletcher, former vicar of Emmanuel Wimbledon & leading conservative evangelical in the Church of England, has been charged with 7 offences of indecent assault and one of causing grievous bodily harm. Criminal proceedings are now active so further comment is inappropriate

Working with @megs_cornwell has been a career highlight. She’s pushed me to be a better journalist and her levels of integrity are second to none. What she and @kddnl have produced has been incredible - and come at huge personal cost. I am so sad and heartbroken today
Megan is not only a brilliant, thorough and gracious journalist but also my friend. I am no longer working on the Soul Survivor podcast. We were very much a team and without her, it would not be right to continue. A heartfelt thank you to all those who bravely shared with us.

Really important contribution here to the debate that will take place in July 7th @synod @churchofengland. It is now clear that a number of victims/survivors of the abuse at #Soulsurvivor DO want the national church & the Archbishops’ @JustinWelby @CottrellStephen Council to commission an independent review. This seems to be contrary to the claim of William Nye in his response to my paper that people affected are happy with what is already in place. Synod must speak for these victims/survivors who are willing to put their experiences in the public realm. In contrast William offers no evidence of those who are happy with the status quo. We must listen to the Spirit. We must put the victim, Christ, at the centre of our decision making.
