Sharing a call to action signed by 188 scientists and ecologists from across India, urging researchers and field practitioners to prepare for, document and respond to the ecological impacts of the evolving 2026/27 El Niño. India’s monsoon season is closing with a rainfall deficit, but the impacts may not end there. They can creep into the seasons ahead and cascade through depleted soil moisture and water storage, land and marine heatwaves, forest fires, coral bleaching and less visible ecological changes. The call asks us not only to strengthen monitoring, but also to safeguard the ecosystems that remain and reduce the pressures already weakening them. The full call is available here: zenodo.org/records/22794483

most toxic problem in Indian univs is equating rigor with "strictness". When tapasya-pariksha culture replaces curiosity & exploration-- you get a pressure cooker. Real issue is how this system treats "failure" & "cheating". Most teachers default think students are lazy, spoilt cuz back when they were students it was so much worse & it made them "stronger" This obsession w. strength IS the weakness. Pressures on marginalized caste, low income, first gen students is unbearable. This should be a moment to look at our exam toxicity & academic culture-- instead casteist Savarnas will make it about bogus merit discourse & make strawman arguments against reservation.

What a loss. Raul Pachego's twitter threads and blog posts democratised academic writing. It is public pedagogy at its finest + a gift of service that very few scholars have participated in.

OK, I’m like 20% through Meet The Savarnas by @ProfRavikantK and this book is pure rage, by which I mean, fabulous. I feel scolded & want to brag about it. Go read! Tell your friends who’ve been loyal to the podcast.
