On recent visit to Iceland, I was impressed by the content of this wall diagram. Before the advent of throwaway consumerism most people saw the logic of the old saying “Waste not, want not.” #FAO Blue Transformation strategy calls for global fish loss & waste to be halved by 2030

We join the call on remaining @WTO members to ratify the deal to end #HarmfulFisheriesSubsidies for entry into force as soon as possible: for the sake of the #ocean, fish, fishers & sustainable #fisheries. 🐟 The WTO's Ministerial Conference in February is a key milestone! #MC13
We are halfway there! 55 countries accepted the WTO’s 2022 #FisheriesSubsidies Agreement, paving the way for sustainable practices. We need 55 more by late February to make a positive impact on our oceans! More: bit.ly/3S3H9nJ

Incredibly humbled and honoured to present @FaunaFloraInt’s new 'about us' film - two minutes and 16 seconds that will inspire you and make you want to partner with us! You’ve heard it all before - climate change, habitat destruction, unsustainable resource use, poaching, it’s all having a destructive impact on our planet. But we want to change the story. Working with local partners, communities, businesses and governments, our shared purpose is to protect the diversity of life on Earth, for the survival of the planet and its people. We are: 🌍 Protecting habitats 🌍 Reviving the ocean 🌍 Reducing extinctions 🌍 Stopping illegal wildlife trade 🌍 Combatting climate change We fuse local and international knowledge to find the best solutions to the issues we face; from working directly in biodiverse areas, to influencing governments and businesses on a global scale. We are committed to saving nature, together. By supporting Fauna & Flora, you’re supporting the survival of our planet. #SavingNatureTogether youtube.com/watch?v=2MmIWQJ0… @FriendsofOcean @oceanpanel @ThomsonFiji @UNBiodiversity @UNEP @HughFW @tunajibu @QueenNoor @NigelWinser

The overwhelming opinion at this week’s Global Plastic Summit in Bangkok was that a UN treaty will be achieved by the end of 2024. This is good news for SDG14.1. But the big question is: how robust will the treaty will be? We must turn off the plastic tap flowing into the ocean!

From the UN Human Rights Office's statement calling @ISBAHQ negotiations on deep sea mining to be informed by critical human rights considerations:“States should commit not to proceed with plans for deep-sea mineral extraction until such a time as adequate safeguards, including sufficient scientific knowledge, exist to ensure such activities can be carried out in a way that respects, protects and fulfils human rights, including the human right to a healthy environment.” @DeepSeaConserve @DivaAmon @HighSeasAllianc @FaunaFloraInt @Benioff @McCauley_Lab @QueenNoor ohchr.org/sites/default/file…
