👀 3 days ?! 👀
Today we are launching RootPath BinderVerse, a cloud lab for AI-designed binders.
Sequence in, binding data out in as few as 3 days, gene synthesis time included! Antibodies and Fab fragments made with CHO cells (TAT from 6 days) and CAR-Ts made with primary T cells (TAT from 10 days) can also be created from your binder sequences and tested.
Trustable data at lightning speed -- Learn more at binderverse.rootpath.com
Check out this blog post about my lab's new technology where we engineered bacteria to mineralize a glass coating around themselves, which allows them to focus light like tiny microlenses!

I'm trying something new: A (possibly) daily blog about biology and engineering.
I'd like to see whether I can emulate Derek Lowe for, say, one month.
My first post is about bacteria that were engineered to act as microlenses, focusing beams of photons.

Microbes were engineered to "focus light into photonic nanojets."
A sea-sponge enzyme, called silicatein, was fused to an E. coli protein that sits on the cell surface, called OmpA. The silicatein mineralized a polysilicate shell around the microbe that scatters beams of light.
Our preprint on engineered bacterial microlenses is out! We engineered bacteria to display sea sponge enzymes on their outer membranes. These bacteria can self-assemble a bioglass coating around themselves, and focus light into bright, photonic nanojets.
