It's slag off Birmingham season again. Yes, neighbourhoods bear scars of car-centric development. And yes, there was philistine demolition of fine buildings. But since 80s (starting with Highbury Conf) massive effort underway to remove concrete collar and reclaim city for people.

The Green are the largest group in the coalition running @BhamCityCouncil. They need to renounce their national policy on Zionism if they are to stand any chance of retaining any credibility in helping run Britain’s most multicultural and anti-racist City. Let’s hear you!
BREAKING: Amnesty International UK chair Sandy Ruthven has left the Green Party following the party's adoption of its 'Zionism is racism' motion at its conference over the weekend.

A forgotten glass bottle might not seem like a big problem, but in hot weather it can increase the risk of fire in dry grass and vegetation.
Before you leave the park, please take all litter home and ensure you leave green spaces exactly as you'd like to find them.
Our parks are home to birds, insects, plants and wildlife that depend on these habitats. Help us keep them and each other safe this summer ❤️

Earlier today (28/7) the Tree of Life memorial was moved from its plinth near the Bull Ring Markets to go away for a restorative break.
The bronze sculpture, is a tribute to the 2,241 civilians who died in the Birmingham Blitz during World War II.
Created by artist Lorenzo Quinn, following a campaign by Birmingham Air Raids Remembrance Association (BARRA) for a permanent memorial, was unveiled on 8 October 2005
Now, after nearly 21 years, it’s been removed from Edgbaston Street, and is being restored by Shropshire-based specialists Castle Foundry.

If you’ve ever wondered why there’s a weird lawn here, it’s because it was the proposed site of new courthouses but the project was cancelled in 2010. Manchester got theirs, we didn’t. It’s time to revive the project to free up the Victoria Law Courts for a new National Museum.

Devolution from London and Westminster to all English city regions is key to national economic renewal. @JaneRockHouse is right that every region should be part of this. Andy Burnham has pushed this model for many years so hopefully Jane will not be disappointed!

I am seriously concerned by reports of intimidation and violence in Stirchley yesterday and have written to the West Midlands Police to highlight these issues.
The Union Jack is a symbol of unity, not division, of patriotism, not polarisation. I condemn all attempts to hijack our flag and sow violence in our communities for political gain.

Look at the difference a few years can make! We’ve closed an underused road to create more spaces for people to enjoy. Great public realm really does an area welcoming.
Temple Street is next on the list. Birmingham is improving. 🌞
