We’ve reached an agreement to acquire @ona_hq. Its secure cloud execution technology will help Codex take on longer-running work, even when laptops are closed, and help more organizations deploy agents securely in production. After closing, Ona will join OpenAI’s Codex team. openai.com/index/openai-to-a…

It’s been a month since I shared being let go from my long-term, much-loved role at Gitpod. The response from the wider tech community took me by surprise—you all literally had my back. I’ve spent the last month connecting with the most inspiring minds and by the end of May, I signed an exciting contract to the next chapter of my career.

Last week marked the end of a 3.5-year journey with @Gitpod, an odyssey with much learning and growth. Here’s what I learned about product, culture, and community for developer tools inside an all remote team. 🏓

We are live! You will often interact with Gitpod for the first time on our website. Because of this, it should beautifully convey our positioning, with a clear understanding of the value our product provides. And after three months of hard work, we’re excited to launch an update to our website! gitpod.io/ When we took on a website redesign, we followed three principles: Design matters: we partnered with @createdbymad @nchristowitz to refine our vision and initial designs, creating pages that felt innovative, intuitive, calm and at their core, Gitpod. Begin with the why: empower developers to be ready-to-code: the experience when nothing stands between being inspired and starting to build. Explain the how: real-estate matters. Every sentence should contribute to the understanding of our core value proposition: - Gitpod is the fastest way to ship product - Gitpod integrates, optimizes and automates your team’s developer experience - Gitpod does all of this securely → Tomorrow, you’ll hear from our CEO, @jolandgraf, on why ready-to-code matters to us. → Next week, you’ll hear from our CTO, @csweichel, on How we built Gitpod Dedicated, our core enterprise offering, and why you should never self-manage a product again. As with everything we do, we’re building for our community and customers. We’d love to hear your feedback: gitpod.typeform.com/to/Un5tK… Special thanks to our lead designer @christinfrohne for putting forth an incredible vision and kicking-off our designs strong, our developer @Siddhant_K_code for the speediest implementation we’ve ever seen and our marketing team for focusing messaging on what our core users need. 🧡

Last week, @Gartner_inc released their 2023 Hype Cycle for Emerging Technologies. In it, they forecasted that cloud development environments (CDEs) would be used to build 60% of cloud workloads.

A major advantage of CDE's is automating your dev environments -as-code. + making CDE configuration as simple as possible is what the team have been looking @ recently. I'll be presenting tomorrow in the @gitpod community. But, I'm going to "spoil the ending" first... 👇

We’re excited to announce that we’ve raised a $25M Series A to build Cloud Development Environments (CDEs) ☁️  Developing software in the cloud is not about simply replicating an existing local workflow to somebody else's machine that happens to run remotely in a data center.

Excited to announce that I have led @Gitpod's $25M Series A, and have joined their board! gitpod.io/blog/future-of-sof… I believe that Cloud Development Environments (CDEs) will unlock a new era of productivity and joy for developers on the same scale that GitHub did. 🧵

Curious what all the fuss is about for 💭 🤔 * Cloud based dev environments * Remote development (not the WFH kind!) * Automating your dev setup I'm looking to speak with *developers who are familiar with VS Code* for a short usability study. More details in thread 👇

Remote development is the idea of hosting your code in the cloud and doing your development from there. You can connect remotely from your IDE, but you've separated where your code is being run from where it's being written This is how modern software is built
