A footnote from Stephen Dolan's Algebraic Subtyping, in reference to a paper by Redko: "This paper is out of print, in Russian, and quite difficult to get a hold of, so the interested reader is directed to a shorter proof by Conway [Con71, p. 105], which is merely out of print."

This week’s topics (bad choices only): – Are the fonts in SIGPLAN templates too fancy nowadays? – How much is too much memory safety? – How much perf are we leaving on the table by disallowing AIs from using GOTO? – At what grade in elementary school should monads be introduced?

It's game night. You're playing Set, blithe and buoyant within an edenic oasis where functions are total and least and greatest fixed points are distinct. In the tarpits below I play DCPO⊥, grizzled by the uncaring realities of a nonterminating world. We are not the same.

Free monads is solid theory, very elegant too. The optimisation via Kan extension is in the same class, they represent a true concept. Alexis King is a nominalist, although she finds it funny, she doesn't understand the nuance.
