Very slow day for us today 😕 Please come and support us if you are in town tomorrow or next week and fancy a coffee and some cake. We can only carry on the work we do if we have customers through the door.

“Sorry for the slow reply” is a symptom of unrealistic demands in an always-on culture.
If you didn’t commit to a response deadline, stop apologizing and drop the guilt—you’re not late.
A healthier message is gratitude for reasonable expectations: “Thanks for your patience.”

COVID-19 rates are still very high, and rising again
Vaccines substantially reduce rates of severe disease and hospitalisation but there is some reduction of effect over time
If you are over 75 or immunosuppressed and the NHS contacts you for a booster please take up the offer
People aged 75 and over, and people aged 12 and over who are immunosuppressed, are now eligible for a Spring COVID-19 booster vaccine.
The NHS will contact eligible people to book their next vital jab. Visit nhs.uk/covid-booster for more information.

So...it might just be that most people are waiting until the day before the deadline to apply, but currently we have fewer applicants to the LingComm Grants than we have actual grants to give out
I'm just saying, your odds of getting funded are currently extremely good

ALT An illustration of a "Mood pyramid." At the bottom is, "Time to recharge" with a recommended "As much as need" frequency. Next are, "Time with loved ones," and "Sunlight" with a recommended "Many servings per day." Above that is, "Some form of movement," recommended "A couple servings per day." Then "Meaningful projects," with a few servings per day, and finally, "Fun," with "At least one serving per day."

Knowing when to move on is a skill that most people just do not possess. Everything isn’t meant to serve you forever, it’s important to know when your time is up.

Just for the record, if you “abstain” from taking a position about incivility or corruption, you are not magically absolved of responsibility, you are complicit.
Culture is defined by the worst behaviour you tolerate.

yes let’s debate whether it’s better to have one hour of sunlight on the way to work or on the way home from work rather than question whether the workday should be so long as to take up all the sunlight on a winter’s day

1/14) Below is a lit review on inclusive leadership I co-wrote some time ago. Targeted for the NHS, it is also useful for other sectors. After introducing key concepts it explains the relevance of things like complexity theory as well as the pros and cons of things like mentoring

A balanced argument doesn’t weigh two sides equally. It weighs the strongest evidence more heavily.
Critical thinking isn't about representing every view. It's about recognizing your biases, and giving serious consideration to facts that contradict your hopes and beliefs.

Hey just so you know, if you've never been a climate person until now, there are no cliques or in-group rules, you can just become one, immediately, despite the fact that others have done it for decades. Childish human psychology does not belong here - you are more than welcome!
