He said the car's a bitch to drive after winning Zandvoort by 10s lol, difficult to drive ≠ not having adapted

"are you allowed to go for a gap on someone as long as it's not oscar?"
lando: "i can go for a gap on oscar even."
"that's surprising. so you didn't cop much in zak's office? he didn't lay down the law?"
lando: "oh, no, i got plenty of telling-offs and plenty of words have been said. but we're still allowed to race. but of course, we can't have what happened last weekend and what has happened, even say here last year. so no, we're still allowed to race, but obviously we can't have a coming together and we have to avoid that in any opportunity possible"
because as opposed to last year where they tried punishing him for the remainder of the year, they're now in a position where they're desperate for the points he brings lol

Lando Norris has been quicker than Oscar Piastri in 16 of 23 qualifying and sprint qualifying sessions this season.
you really had to be there
last year, this triple header was the turning point in lando's championship fight.
he entered 22 points behind the championship lead.
🇺🇸 cota: sprint dnf after getting taken out, bounced back with a P2 in the grand prix.
🇲🇽 mexico: total domination. pole, win, and the largest winning margin of the season (30.324s). took back the championship lead by 1 point.
🇧🇷 brazil: a perfect weekend. sprint pole, sprint win, pole, race win. scored every available point in a sprint weekend.
he left the triple header 24 points clear at the top of the championship.

They’re moving on, but not me.
They’ve been publicly humiliating Lando for weeks; they’ve made such a fuss over such a small thing, all just to try and hide the fact that they’re the ones to blame for losing the championship, not Lando.

mclaren has partnered with abbvie, a biopharmaceutical company developing treatments for serious health conditions, to launch its race to innovate initiative.
for every 10 points mclaren scores in the constructors' championship, abbvie will donate $10,000 to organizations supporting people living with immune-mediated diseases. such an incredible initiative and such an important cause to support 🧡

“the faster driver is bottled up behind the slower driver and [mcl] don’t want him to make a move but you’re not gonna tell [lando] to hold position. you’re gonna be annoyed when he does and it’s a collision”

He’s gone through all the stages of Daniel Ricciardo but in record time
Oscar Piastri's struggles in 2026 may have more to do with the McLaren MCL40 than his driving ability.
According to Andrea Stella, the car demands a much more aggressive driving style, forcing Piastri to abandon the smooth, precise approach that made him so competitive in 2025.
Lando Norris has adapted better, but McLaren believes Piastri's difficulties are technical rather than a lack of talent.

jolyon: "i'm not going to keep going over it. it wasn't an egregious attempt. opportunistic, sure. and the fallout is.. 'what an idiot. what's he doing'. what a strange stance that someone dares to try and overtake rather than hold position. and everyone's absolutely pillorying the guy for trying to make an overtaking move in a race"

Tom: "a few listeners said you were quite lenient on lando when it came to that collision in the sprint. do you still stand by that?"
Jolyon: "yeah. i do. i still think exactly what i said. go and listen to it again, listeners. the narrative is extremely strong against norris, i'm aware of that. but i'm just objectively looking at it and i see a driver that's under control on the inside that is then the space is taken away from him when, according to the guidelines, he warrants the space. and that's where you've got to race to, haven't you?"
Tom: "but take one step back, why was he even trying the move at that stage in the race against your teammate when the team's not going to benefit from the points total?"
Jolyon: "because he's a racing driver and it's a race tc"
Tom: "you're sounding like lando now, that's exactly what he said"
Jolyon: "yeah and you know what, these guys are racing drivers. there was no team order for him to hold position, so if mclaren had given him team orders, you'd say he's gone against the team, that's crazy! but he's after the best result he can get. he's gone for a move that i don't think is an outrageous attempt. he's not absolutely bulldozed into the side of oscar. he's made it over the apex curb. he's got the car slowed sufficiently. and on the other side, you've got oscar turning in, not giving the space at the apex.
so yeah, it is a race. they didn't instruct him to hold positions. for me, the incident itself is a racing incident. you could put more blame on lando because he's the one that can see it open up in front of him. he's also been quicker for so many laps and the team could have orchestrated a swap round.
if they wanted to maximize their score, they could have put lando ahead of oscar and they're not going to have this decision where the faster driver is bottled up behind a slower driver, and then you don't want him to try and make a move, but you're not going to tell him to hold position. you're going to be annoyed when he does, and then it's a collision.
and again, i look at the collision. he's not all steamed up, locked on the brakes, desperate to get on the inside. he's down the inside, fair and square, on the way into the corner. and then the space gets taken away, and that's where i see the incident going. so for all those reasons, i know i'm against the narrative, but i'm looking at it in my own objective way, whether people agree or disagree with me. that's how i see it."
