A packed @APPGDS AGM! Fair Shot CIC shared how they’re supporting people with #DownSyndrome into work, while the @NDSPolicyGroup Advisory Group raised concerns over delays to the #DownSyndromeAct2022 Guidance. Great discussions & importantly, hearing directly from people with DS.

It’s here. The first AI feature film to screen in theatres. The first AI feature film by a female filmmaker.
Not a collection of shorts. A feature film.
Not a studio. One woman with a laptop.
Not a paid PR campaign. An organic social movement.
I didn’t just make a film. We made history. Together.
Because I never for a second thought this was about me. It’s much much bigger than me.
The era of waiting for permission is over. I’m living proof. And that makes some people mad.
Because there are no gatekeepers where there are no gates.
BOSS (2026). Coming soon to a theatre near you.

NDSPG was quoted @Independent’s coverage of yesterday’s assisted dying debate.
Dame Karen Bradley MP:
“NDSPG put it best: this Bill hopes for the best rather than prepares for the worst.”
Our community’s concerns were heard in Parliament.

Many words, many speeches. But this deeply moving, impassioned, plea to @HouseofCommons from Lancashire MP @AshleyDalton_MP - who has stage 4 incurable breast cancer - was simply outstanding: ‘My days may be numbered, but that doesn't mean that I want this chamber to rush through bad law just so I might have a chance to see it or use it’. Mercifully, @UKParliament heeded her courageous warning not to ‘rush through bad law’. Instead, Government must swiftly respond to calls from both Houses, and the Scottish Parliament, for urgent focus on life enhancing palliative care and comprehensive hospice provision. @andyburnham @YvetteCooperMP @CommonsSpeaker @UKHouseofLords @scotgov

We’re pleased with today’s result. This was an important decision, & we welcome the recognition that the legislation in its current form was not fit for purpose. Thank you to the DS and LD communities who collectively spoke up, raised concerns & worked to ensure they were heard.

Huge thanks to our advocates & campaigners for their tireless work & determination. And to @nmdacosta, thank you for keeping everyone informed with accurate, timely updates & bringing so many voices together. A tremendous collective effort, and one that mattered.

The Assisted Dying Bill has been voted down today. We welcome the decision to put safety first, & we too thank all who listened to the concerns raised.
“I feel joy in my heart.
Thank you to all the MPs
and members of the
House of Lords who heard us.” @tommyjessop
I am relieved that the Assisted Dying Bill has fallen - thanks to the MPs who saw that whatever their views on the merits of this Bill, poor safeguards put too many people at risk. You cannot underestimate the extreme concern this proposed legislation caused. @nmdacosta @Tanni_GT

Not one disability group supports the Bill. Over 60 DS/LD organisations signed an open letter raising serious concerns about the lack of robust safeguards in the Bill. Until these safeguards are firmly in place, MPs must stand with disabled people & vote against the Bill.

Today MPs vote on the Assisted Dying Bill. 60+ disability organisations & medical bodies signed this open letter.
Our concerns remain: safeguards do not give us confidence that people with Down syndrome & other learning disabilities are protected.
Ask your MP to vote against.

Virtually every expert on palliative care, safeguarding and disability rights thinks this euthanasia bill is disastrous.
We need MPs to see this video!
Without any of the necessary safeguards, how can any MP assume that ‘someone else’ will make this bill safe? I have heard doctors arguing with patients who do not consent to DNRs, why would this be any different? @nmdacosta @DamianHinds @rachaelross21 @mencap_charity @Tanni_GT
MPs vote on assisted dying TOMORROW
“Please listen to us .. Please keep us safe.” @tommyjessop
People with Down syndrome have raised concerns about pressure, coercion & safeguards
If MPs have doubts people will be protected, they should vote NO.
Still time to contact your MP

I have terminal cancer. I know how it feels to look at your options. Once the option for assisted dying exists, some people may feel - or be - coerced into taking it, or do so out of fear of being a burden on their family or the NHS.

BRAND NEW RESEARCH: Assisted dying could be seen as “a choice people make for me” – a huge coercion risk!
