Just realized George Church, who I know well and is the Harvard/MIT genetics legend, CRISPR pioneer, and one of the most important scientists alive, is raising for his gene therapy company Rejuvenate Bio on Wefunder.
This is equity crowdfunding under Regulation CF. Everyday people (not just VCs or the ultra-rich) can invest as little as a few hundred dollars and own actual equity in a company spun out of his lab. One-shot AAV therapies that have already shown heart disease reversal in dogs, with years of safety data, and a path toward humans.
For most of history, this kind of science was locked behind elite institutions and big checks. Now a founder of Church’s stature and his partners are deliberately opening the round to the broader community, and it’s working (oversubscribed, ranked #1 by Kingscrowd).
Rejuvenate Bio spun out of my lab at Harvard, and I co-founded it. One injection reverses cardiac disease in dogs, with three years of safety data and zero safety issues. They’ve raised $3.2M+ and 1,250+ investors are in, and Kingscrowd ranks the round #1 in the country. It closes soon: wefunder.com/rejuvenatebio

A universal predictive model of the cell would dramatically accelerate science, allowing biologists to perform experiments digitally. Today we’re announcing a major partnership with the DOE and NIH. The goal of this partnership is to generate the data that will be needed to build an accurate model of the cell with artificial intelligence.
Isomorphic, Google DeepMind, and Meta are joining us as founding partners in the Virtual Biology Initiative. This is the beginning of a large scale coordinated effort to map cellular biology to power the development of digital models of life. Other leading scientific institutions and consortia including the Allen Institute, Broad Institute, Gladstone Institutes, the Human Cell Atlas, the Human Protein Atlas, the Wellcome Sanger Institute, as well as NVIDIA, are working together as part of this international scientific project.
Creating a predictive model of the cell is one of the most important challenges for the next decade of science. The insights that come from this could unlock a far greater understanding of disease, and open new paths for cures.
We invite the worldwide scientific community and other funders to join us in this effort.

Sektor automotive? Proszę bardzo proszę Pana. Rosyjski gaz? Podać zimny proszę Pana? Informacje z NATO?
Bo to łatwiejsze, niż bycie kreatywnym, pracowitym i odpowiedzialnym. W sektorze prywatnym stagnacja i jeden wielka intelektualna blokada rozwojowa.
W mojej ocenie Zachód Europy do skansen mentalnie nieskory do wysiłku.
Zachodni Europejczycy zrobili to sami.
Myśleć o przyszłości, zachowaniu dynamiki rozwoju i budowaniu silniejszego regionu/najbliższego otoczenia. Bo to tutaj będzie trzeba budować stabilną i bezpieczną architekturę.
pozdrawiam

Niech się niesie ta historia.
🙏
Witold Pilecki is regarded as the only known person to have volunteered to enter Auschwitz. His mission was to discover what was happening inside the camp, inform the outside world and establish a resistance network.
Yesterday marked the 86th anniversary of Witold Pilecki’s arrest.
“His decision to allow himself to be arrested was one of the bravest acts of the war,” says Jack Fairweather, author of the acclaimed Pilecki biography The Volunteer and interim President and CEO of the Pilecki Institute (USA).
How did his arrest come about?
In the summer of 1940, the leadership of the Polish underground knew very little about the camp the Germans had established at Auschwitz. The town lay in the part of occupied Poland that the German Reich had annexed directly following the invasion of September 1939. At that time, Auschwitz was used primarily to crush Polish resistance and terrorise members of the Polish elite.
The underground was looking for an officer who could enter the camp, gather information and establish clandestine structures there. Witold Pilecki was chosen for the mission. But an undertaking of such danger could not simply be imposed upon him as an order. The final decision was his.
On 19 September 1940, Pilecki was staying at the home of his sister-in-law, Eleonora Ostrowska, in Warsaw’s Żoliborz district. German units had sealed off the neighbourhood and begun a large-scale roundup. The building’s caretaker twice offered to hide Pilecki,
but he declined. Pilecki had prepared himself for his arrest, both mentally and physically. He had even packed a toothbrush.
When, shortly afterwards, there was a violent knock at the door, Pilecki said goodbye to Ostrowska’s son and went to face the German uniformed officers. Before being led away, he whispered to his sister-in-law: “Report where necessary that I have carried out the order.”
That same day, Pilecki and the other detainees were taken to a barracks in Warsaw. Two days later, the prisoners were marched to the railway station and locked inside freight wagons. Pilecki was carrying false papers in the name of Tomasz Serafiński.
There was no guarantee that he would actually be sent to Auschwitz. He could not know where the Germans would take him, and anyone arrested during such a roundup faced an immediate threat to their life. His mission therefore began with a decision whose consequences he could not control.
At Auschwitz, Pilecki was assigned prisoner number 4859. Despite the omnipresent terror, he established a secret resistance network that eventually included hundreds of prisoners. The organisation gathered information about conditions in the camp and passed it to the outside world. At the same time, it created a system of mutual assistance: it obtained food and medicine, supported weakened prisoners and those in particular danger, and attempted to have them assigned to less arduous work details.
From the beginning of his imprisonment, Pilecki collected information about German crimes and living conditions at Auschwitz. His first message reached the Polish underground in Warsaw as early as October 1940. Further reports followed regularly. Among other methods, Pilecki had them smuggled out of the camp by released prisoners. Through the structures of the Polish Underground State, the information reached the Polish government-in-exile in London and subsequently the Allies. Later reports also documented Auschwitz’s development into a centre for the extermination of Europe’s Jews.
After two years and seven months, Pilecki decided to escape. On the night of 26–27 April 1943, he fled Auschwitz together with Edward Ciesielski and Jan Redzej. Once free, he wrote extensive reports describing his experiences and the crimes committed in the camp.

Mam wrażenie, że umknął wszystkim ważny news:
Gabriel Attal, były premier Francji, obecnie lider prezydenckiej partii Renaissance i jeden z potencjalnych kandydatów w wyborach prezydenckich w 2027 roku, przedstawił własną wizję przyszłości integracji europejskiej.
Attal proponuje powołanie „Stanów Zjednoczonych Europy” – dokładnie tak nazywa swój projekt. Na czele nowej struktury miałby stanąć europejski prezydent wybierany bezpośrednio przez obywateli należących do niej państw. Attal nie chce czekać na zgodę całej UE: federacyjny rdzeń mógłby początkowo tworzyć 8–10 krajów. Wśród potencjalnych uczestników wymienia wprost Polskę, obok m. in. Niemiec, Włoch, Hiszpanii, państw Beneluksu i nordyckich. Integracja byłaby szczególnie daleko posunięta w gospodarce: wspólny budżet i dług, zbliżenie podatków, wspólne prawo pracy i gospodarcze, paneuropejskie banki i koncerny telekomunikacyjne oraz wielkie inwestycje w AI, energetykę, medycynę i przemysł kosmiczny. Państwa narodowe miałyby jednak przetrwać i zachować zasadnicze kompetencje suwerenne. Projekt miałby zostać zatwierdzony w jednoczesnych referendach w państwach założycielskich.

If this is so👇, then all the more reason to invite Poland 🇵🇱 and CEE. They are all ready to “move ahead without waiting for everyone else”. This is exactly what they have been doing since 1989. They are Usain Bolts of reform and change. @lugaricano
“European University Institute professor Nicolas Petit, an initiator and member of the Rhine Group, told POLITICO that the initiative “may work on other ways of getting things done,” including cooperation among countries prepared to move ahead without waiting for everyone else. “
Today's Politico Brussels Playbook reports how the EU Commission was caught off guard: It didn’t know the Rhine Group was coming, despite von der Leyen speaking to Draghi just last month. "Publicly, the Commission didn’t criticise the initiative but didn’t exactly give a full-throated endorsement either."
An interesting part to watch will be how the Rhine Group succeeds in pushing the same agenda as Brussels, which has been too slow, and in revealing "how much von der Leyen has actually delivered". Not very much.
European University Institute professor Nicolas Petit, an initiator and member of the Rhine Group, told POLITICO that the initiative “may work on other ways of getting things done,” including cooperation among countries prepared to move ahead without waiting for everyone else.
Hence, the coalitions of the willing will appear once again, but my bet is that they will be the same ones active in European defence and understand the sense of urgency. Aka those who were not invited as experts in the group.

This will be my final entry on the subject. I'm sorry for having been so active in the last 24 hours. Nevertheless, Solidarity (Pol. Solidarność) is part of our tradition, something which we discovered the hard way through history. I believe in our shared European future. What I mean is not federations but rather the establishment of close relationships within the EU.
I've always been engaged in this activity, for instance, by co-founding the Interest Group on Algorithmic Foundations of Information Technology (IGAFIT), a pan-European initiative aimed at supporting the development of algorithms - igafit.mimuw.edu.pl/. In fact, we really did make the effort to look throughout all of Europe in order to find other people like us.
We are members of the European Laboratory for Learning and Intelligent Systems (ELLIS) - a pan-European network of excellence in the field of AI - ellis.eu/. We are giving our full support to our joint initiatives in the area of AI from Warsaw.
It is sad to note that once again there is a clear split throughout the EU, and it is surprising that 54 prominent Europeans consider this acceptable. The position I have been taking over the past 24 hours is that it is not fine.
Good luck with the Rhine Group! But, as I have already said several times:
“Even if politics and markets will not unite, we scientists and entrepreneurs need to learn how to act in the favor of Europe as a whole. Furthermore, we must ensure we train the next generation of such leaders.”
That's why I intend to carry out training such leaders in the future as well!
