Interesting: Back in '92 then-Ward 1 councilmember Frank Smith introduced a bill to allow non-citizen legal residents vote in D.C. elections. The council recently passed a bill to that effect (and to let undocumented residents vote), but I didn't know the idea went that far back.

This is true, but I think it was harder for nonprofit things like Wikipedia to get started by the time Twitter came along, and it's even harder nowadays. Everything has to be about extracting as much profit as possible.

Still, with a one vote margin, dealmaking is the name of the game. And with so much at stake for both parties, “everyone is walking on eggshells to see how scorched earth they want to go,” said one Republican consultant.

This does not sound good.
Due to safety concerns from the overwhelming demand for debit cards & turkeys, Holiday Helpings 2022 has ended. This was a very difficult decision, & we are sorry for the impact on you & your family. We're closed and will reopen for in-person services on Monday, November 28.

Oh, crap. This is going to affect so many people. When R and I drove past last week, the line was around the block. Alternatives, for us to help keep folks afloat for the next 10 days?
Our centers will be closed due to unforeseen circumstances starting tomorrow, November 18. We will open again on Monday, November 28. We will no longer be doing Holiday Helpings distribution. We apologize for the inconvenience.

It sucked that Elaine Luria lost last week, but Dems can now expand their 21-19 majority in the Virginia Senate because her opponent, Jen Kiggans, had to resign her seat as a result. This is a huge opportunity in a swingy district that went Biden +10 dailykos.com/stories/2022/11…

Part of a long history of conservatives in state governments overruling the democratic will of majority POC cities
BREAKING: PA state House votes to impeach Philadelphia DA Larry Krasner: 107 to 85. This is the culmination of years of attacks on Krasner and a last-ditch effort by GOP to push impeachment through in lame-duck session as Dems are poised to take over theintercept.com/2022/11/15/…

The Statue of Liberty doesn’t say “Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses, and then throw them on a bus for some cheap political stunt.” This is America. And these are human beings – not props. We're better than this. 🇺🇸

I followed the new Twitter owner & CEO today, as I did @jack @ev @dickc & @paraga. @Twitter suggested follows, showing a “set of accounts that work well with @ElonMusk.” Algorithmic suggestions can be insightful about ideological alignment then public statements.
