Spokane is a land of Housing Abundance. You can rent a new (2024 build) 2BR home for $1,340/mo about 15 minutes north of downtown
Not far from 60% AMI
Great news for renters. Maybe not for the owners

Guy who thinks 115 degrees in the summer is not a natural disaster
Can I introduce you to Arizona?
- Low property taxes with capped increases (NY monthly tax bill on par with AZ yearly tax bill)
- No natural disasters in Phoenix (although insurance companies hedge risk across multiple states, so it’s not as cheap as it should be)
- Flat 2.5% state income tax
AZ never makes the list of “low tax states” because of sales tax.
But our version of sales tax is charged to the vendor, rather than the buyer. I’ve never paid sales tax on big purchases - vendors will pay it to make a sale

Hey @wmataGM why can good boys and girls ride the bus in Seattle but not DC???
RS Means is not neccesarily the right benchmark but there's a lot that goes into driving cost for affordable housing development. Glad to see awareness/discussion oregonjournalismproject.org/…
Finally a small firetruck
@jasonc_nc hope you're excited for the urbanism of Phoenix 🐦🔥
Excited for a comprehensive plan that allows more housing
Zoning is important but insufficient on its own to spur housing development. Developers, who sign personal guarantees and literally put their house on the line, need to believe they will make money.
We can and we must build more homes for all of us.

ALT We will work to stabilize DC's housing market, preserve the affordable housing we already have, and address rent nonpayment while protecting tenants. We must because DC is facing real economic challenges. But we need to create the foundation for ambitious growth. Here’s how →

ALT Legalize high-density, mixed-use buildings near Metrorail and bus stops and on publicly-owned land. Legalize small apartment buildings citywide so Washingtonians have more choices and more opportunities in more neighborhoods. End parking requirements citywide, and encourage minimal parking be built in developments near Metro stations.
So true

Pheonix is a crime against nature. Cities are not meant to be built in the middle of the fucking desert. They're meant to be on the coast or on a river.
