To every journalist who has been working non-stop on big events and breaking news all these days, nights and weekends: deep appreciation. And thanks to your managers and your loved ones who support you.
When nonprofit news orgs receive grants there is often language in grant agreements like this:
"No grant funds may be used by your organization for purposes of influencing elections or conducting voter registration drives"
A key difference between NONPROFIT & for profit news
We did have a conversation 2day abt how the next generation is interacting with news. I always tell folks talk to someone who is 20 years younger than you are. If you’re 30, pay attention to a 10 year old’s behaviors If you’re 50, a 30 year old might be using different platforms
Replying to @DonnerKay
BTW, I’m at #INNDays24, but here is Day 1 of @MSYouthMedia 2024 back in Mississippi newsroom with @JacksonStateU journal grad Kiden Smith leading them in a reporting/writing workshop. Full-time, six weeks, paid training and reporting. Photo by long-time YMP partner @ImaniKhayyam.
I hope you signed up for office hours with Amy. She knows so much about succession planning.
I'm here at #INNDays24 to represent @tinynewsco and all our early-stage news founders. And I'm excited to meet one of our TNC members Brit Harley of @fivewardsmedia, who is speaking on a panel about finding joy in local news deserts inn.org/sessions/saving-live…

Job well done @Cande313 The love letter to your city remains deeply moving and important. Congrats on serving the good people of #Detroit with the news and information they need to manage their lives. @outliermedia continues to be an organization to watch. 👏🏽
"People don't need to find their me. They need to find their her." @evanasmith Who is "she", you wonder? @dicktofel latest newsletter bit.ly/3VU27Jq She is the one who knew how to sell @TexasTribune

.@INN is a membership organization that serves more than 425 providers of fact based reporting. Reliable news. Not anyone can be an INN member. Members are vetted for their commitment to public service and investigative reporting.
We were able to discuss the work of a few @inn members today on @1a : @BenitoLink @media_outlier @MSFreePress @wfae @SearchlightNM but there are so many other local news providers doing excellent work

“In the last year, about 80% of the outlets that were a part of the [INN] Index grew or maintained the revenue, and now their revenue, less than 50% of it, comes from philanthropy,” INN’s CEO @kbmiami told a panel at Boston University yesterday.

I ruined this album release for my students by making it a lesson on apostrophe usage.
