If your company does any product development, engineering, or manufacturing process improvement, you probably overpaid your taxes from 2022-2024. Congress quietly fixed this last July. Retroactively. The catch: the window to amend 2022 starts closing in weeks. Here’s the full field guide ↓ striketax.com/journal/2026-r… #RDTaxCredit #SmallBusiness #TaxRefund #OBBBA #Section174

CPAs: the R&D credit landscape shifted more in 2025 than in the past decade. Section 174A, retroactive elections, mandatory Form 6765 Section G for 2026, new documentation standards for refund claims. If you have clients doing R&D, this field guide covers what changed and what to do now: striketax.com/journal/2026-r…

More people need to hear this: Your anxiety is driven on idleness. You're anxious because you have a goal you're doing nothing about. Taking action turns anxiety into entertainment. You learn things. You use the mental energy to create rather than stress. You figure things out. If you feel anxious today. Take some action.

american open source ai just got its biggest win and nobody's talking about it nvidia dropped nemotron 3 completely open while everyone's distracted by chinese models and closed gpt releases 30 billion parameters total but only activates 3.6 billion at a time so it runs 380 tokens per second which is 2-3x faster than anything comparable and when i say open i mean actually open not the fake open where you get weights and a good luck note full model weights plus all training recipes plus pre-training code plus post-training software plus every dataset they legally can redistribute plus the entire rl environment stack they used for agent training this is the most complete open release in ai history and it's beating qwen3 by +6 points on the intelligence index while running way faster 1 million token context window runs on 24gb consumer ram crushes swe-bench for small models and people are reporting 110 tokens per second locally on their own hardware not in some cloud datacenter on your actual computer right now today hybrid mamba-transformer architecture with mixture of experts which means you get transformer reasoning quality at state-space-model speed without the usual tradeoffs and they're releasing super 100-120b and ultra 400-500b soon with something called latentmoe that makes massive models run faster than physics says they should while everyone argues about agi timelines nvidia just made the entire ai training playbook public and handed american companies the keys to compete without foreign dependencies

If you believe free speech is for you but not your political opponents, you're illiberal. If no contrary evidence could change your beliefs, you're a fundamentalist. GPT-5 is an epic fail. More importantly, it reveals that OpenAI lacks a viable business model, as it struggles to roll out a functional model that won’t burn through its cash. I’d like to short it at its theorietical $500B valuation. Anyone want to cover that trade? shellypalmer.com/2025/08/fiv…

People are still misunderstanding what’s happening. Many believe that yields are spiking because investors are losing faith in the U.S. itself, that something fundamental is broken with America’s creditworthiness. But that view only captures a small piece of the picture and misses the real risk building underneath. The reality is much worse… the financial system globally is under extreme stress. When yields rise this sharply, it triggers massive losses across balance sheets everywhere banks, insurance companies, pension funds, corporations, and even sovereign governments. Higher yields mean falling bond prices, and falling bond prices create massive holes in portfolios that were built assuming years of low, stable interest rates. These institutions are now being forced to sell assets not because they’re bearish on the U.S., but because they have no choice. Liquidity pressures, margin calls, covenant breaches, capital ratio requirements all of it is accelerating the selling. It’s not a bet against America; it’s a systemic margin call. Emerging markets are getting hit even harder. As the dollar strengthens and their debt burdens soar, they’re being forced to dump Treasuries and reserves to defend their currencies and stabilize their economies. But every sale pushes yields even higher, creating a vicious cycle that feeds on itself. This isn’t normal market behavior. It’s financial strain showing up through the one market that can’t easily absorb forced selling: the U.S. Treasury market. The global system is saturated with debt, and higher yields aren’t a signal of health or optimism they are a flashing warning that the system, built on decades of cheap credit, is now starting to break under its own weight. The real problem isn’t that people distrust the U.S. It’s that the entire structure of global finance is cracking under the pressure of high rates, and the forced liquidations we’re seeing are symptoms of something much bigger and much more dangerous.

Couldn’t agree more. Luckily we have intelligent folks like @SecScottBessent handling the deal, and he’s been around the block. They’re not going to pull one over on him.

This is insane! When will we crack down on bad behavior from China against US national interests and the Chinese people? Stop supporting US IP theft, human rights abuses, and slave labor by NOT buying Chinese products (whenever possible).

Wow. The currently best ranked consumer AI model has just acquired the most complete corpus of scaled, real time information on the Internet. This data will be a part of the pretraining to make the models xAI makes even more differentiated. This is a smart move in a moment when other model makers are caught up and slowed down in copyright lawsuits (OpenAI) for training data or pre-training quality (Meta) itself.

@xAI has acquired @X in an all-stock transaction. The combination values xAI at $80 billion and X at $33 billion ($45B less $12B debt). Since its founding two years ago, xAI has rapidly become one of the leading AI labs in the world, building models and data centers at unprecedented speed and scale. X is the digital town square where more than 600M active users go to find the real-time source of ground truth and, in the last two years, has been transformed into one of the most efficient companies in the world, positioning it to deliver scalable future growth. xAI and X’s futures are intertwined. Today, we officially take the step to combine the data, models, compute, distribution and talent. This combination will unlock immense potential by blending xAI’s advanced AI capability and expertise with X’s massive reach. The combined company will deliver smarter, more meaningful experiences to billions of people while staying true to our core mission of seeking truth and advancing knowledge. This will allow us to build a platform that doesn’t just reflect the world but actively accelerates human progress. I would like to recognize the hardcore dedication of everyone at xAI and X that has brought us to this point. This is just the beginning. Thank you for your continued partnership and support.

Yes and no. I do believe AI will eventually “get there.” But the so-called exponential leaps in capability we’re being sold like claims that “AI is now a top 200 coder in the world” feel overstated. As a direct user, the latest Claude update, for example, doesn’t reflect any such dramatic jump. Scaling a car won’t get you from Paris to London, at some point, you need to fly by plane. Similarly, LLMs feel like they have plateaued… (see my disappointment from claude 3.7 upgrade) and software engineering isn’t going to vanish. Like car engineers who reinvented themselves to build aircraft, software engineers will evolve to build the next layer of abstraction, not be replaced by it. If it is not concrete enough: - Assembly language was abstracted by C - C was abstracted by Python - Now, AI tools might abstract Python, letting the end-user describe what he want in plain English and generating the code. But even with that, someone still needs to build, understand, and maintain these abstractions which is where software engineers come in

Unfortunate but accurate. The engineer’s role will be supervisory, at best, within 18months. Building tools for them will be roadkill for the model makers product roadmap.
I no longer think you should learn to code.

Section 174 update: I was on a very encouraging call with @actonline and a legislative aide to Rep. Ron Estes. The sentiment is that 174 will likely be fixed as part of the Republican tax package. The highest point of leverage we have is lobbying *Republican* Senators on the Finance Committee.
