Very well done video showing the simultaneous, compound climate shocks going on all over the World. If people could only see how much extreme weather is happening daily in all parts of the World, they’d understand that we are way off kilter.

Just attending a 3-day workshop on the danger of abrupt ocean circulation changes. Discussions are quite worrying. E.g. in 35 to 45 % of high quality models, convection in the open North Atlantic collapses in the 2030s due to #globalheating. -> Major climate disruption. ☹️

Yesterday, a new record-high for the global sea-surface temperature was reached at 21.12°C, beating the previous record of 21.10°C.
New records should continue almost daily for about the next six weeks, please forgive me if I don't report them all.

Great piece in @Nature today exploring if its too late to keep warming below 1.5C (yes, at least without overshoot) but also highlighting the accelerating energy transition that is occurring worldwide. I was happy to help with a few figures in the piece: nature.com/immersive/d41586-…

"These dynamics are not included in models, & if we were to include them, it would increase projections of sea level rise by up to 200% – not just for Petermann but for all glaciers ending in the ocean, which is most of northern Greenland & all of Antarctica.” -Prof. Eric Rignot
We could be vastly underestimating future sea level rise...

Yesterday was the first day CO₂ at Mauna Loa was 425 ppm. This is:
-likely the first time in the past 800,000 years.
-possibly not seen in over 3 million years (mid-pliocene warm period).
-A CO₂ forcing equal to 2.5-4°C of warming and 5-25 meters higher global sea level.

Sea level is rising twice as fast in the SE and Gulf than the global average, multiple recent papers have found. In this week’s Climate Classroom, I spoke to sea level rise expert @johnenglander about the science and it’s impact. nam11.safelinks.protection.o…

‼IMPORTANT‼
IPCC reveals that Earth's climate cannot be stabilised under 1.5C or 2C, that its own carbon budgets are fake.
IPCC confirms that climate change is now inevitable centuries and millennia into the future.

Thought-provoking panel #AspenIdeasClimate with @susanbgoldberg, the @nytimes Bret Stephens and @johnenglander on Bret changing his mind on climate change.
John says he can convince anyone of climate change in 20 minutes.
Why do skeptics change their minds?

Rising sea levels are inevitable, as @britishports members heard from @johnenglander and the Rising Seas Institute in our recent webinar. It’s not just homeowners and councils but critical infrastructure operators that need plan for this.

Giant, 90ft Deep Craters Are Appearing on the Arctic Seafloor. The craters are forming as a result of thawing submerged permafrost on the edge of the Beaufort Sea in northern Canada, with retreating glaciers from the last ice age driving the change. newsweek.com/ocean-crater-pe…
