Mais ils ne s’arrêteront pas aux Juifs.

At a time when Canadian workers face serious challenges, the labour movement should be focused on unity, workers’ rights and collective bargaining, not symbolic political battles over foreign conflicts.
The @CanadianLabour Congress’s decision to sever ties with Israel’s largest labour federation raises serious questions about the meaning of solidarity.
As @jeffarbus, former vice-president of @OPSEU and special advisor to @JewishLabourCA, writes in the @TheHubCanada, Jewish workers deserve the same respect, inclusion and protection as every other worker.
A member is a member. A worker is a worker. No exceptions. No selective solidarity.

This article by @jeffarbus eloquently describes how the Canadian Labour movement has failed in its mandate to unite for a common cause
By alienating Jewish workers, it has fractured and weakened the labour movement

Or
they knew this was going to happen & didn’t care because they were dead set on recognizing a Palestinian state — and lied to Canadians.

Hag Soukkot Sameah!

I love the holiday of Sukkot, which begins tonight.
For a week, Jews leave the comfort & security of their homes to live (or at the very least, eat) in a sukkah, a fragile hut with a roof that lets you see the sky. (I hope the weather cooperates…)
Sukkot reminds us that security is never absolute. That our certainties can be fragile. And that, despite—or is it because of?—this, we have a duty to rejoice and to welcome others.
This message, dating back thousands of years, is particularly relevant today: Sukkot tells us that the strength of a society is measured by its ability to open its doors to the Other—those who are different and think differently.
Hag Sukkot Sameah!

This scathing rebuke of @avilewis very eloquently explains the harm he has caused
By blaming Jews in Canada for the (alleged) actions of another state, something that would be unheard of for any other demographic group, he has justified violence against Jews
He should resign
Avi Lewis’ foolish statement should be disqualifying for the leader of a major political party.
However, because he is leader of the NDP, and because his target was Jews, it very well could boost his internal support by five points.

CBC journalists can now call the September 11 attacks what they were: terrorism.
Credit to @kinsellawarren for bringing CBC’s 9/11 language guidance to light — and to @CBCNews for responding to the criticism and changing its policy.
However, broader CBC policy remains in place, requiring attribution when describing other acts of terrorism.
That includes Hamas. Nearly three years after the October 7 terrorist attacks, CBC still refuses to call Hamas a terrorist organization without attribution — despite Hamas being a listed terrorist entity in Canada since 2002.
CBC should address the larger problem: listed terrorist organizations like Hamas should be called what they are. Terrorist attacks should be reported as terrorist attacks.

Boy George stood with the Jewish community. Now, Canadians are standing with him.
As the @TheCJN reports, Boy George and Culture Club’s September 7 Vancouver concert is going ahead despite calls to cancel the performance over his support for Israel and the victims of the October 7 terrorist attacks.
The @PNE_Playland has stood firm, rejecting calls for censorship and making clear that audiences should decide which artists they want to see and support.
As CIJA’s @nicoslobinsky told The CJN: “Calls to cancel a concert because of an artist’s views cross an important line.”
Thank the PNE for standing up for artistic freedom — and show Boy George that Canada welcomes him.
