I πŸ’― agree We cannot allow a loud racist minority to drive a hateful narrative that has caused so much harm right here in Canada This sends a message that while you have the right to be an antisemite, you most certainly do not have the right to be one openly without consequence
He got what he deserved. He expressed his opinion as is his right. Now the Calgary Opera has expressed theirs as is their right. We all have freedom of expression. We don’t have impunity from consequences of that expression.

With respect @AmiraElghawaby Doubling down to support an organization that has misrepresented the government you worked for is not a good look They were caught in a pretty big lie Do you really want to be part of that?
β€œWe will continue to advocate for the protection of civil liberties, freedom of expression, and the right of all Canadians to engage in legitimate political debate without fear of having their views unfairly characterized.”

I am relieved to learn that @CalgaryOpera decided to prioritize the needs of their audience over the political whims of one of their cast When people go to an opera they go for the opera, not to have someone else’s political agenda, however misguided, forced upon them
We are disturbed to learn that @CalgaryOpera has removed bass-baritone Gabriel Sanchez-Ortega from future performances of "Tosca" after he unveiled a Palestinian flag during the curtain call on opening night. Art is political, and artists should not be punished for expressing support for the Palestinian people as they face a genocide. This decision must be reversed.

This is not an accurate description of the β€œclarification” that was sent to @nccm The current position of the Canadian govt is that antizionism as an ideology is in fact antisemitism Sadly the misinformation that this group is spreading will promote further spread of Jew-hate
After significant community concern and advocacy, including much engagement by many Canadians, including NCCM, the Government of Canada has clarified in a response letter that anti-Zionism is not inherently antisemitic, reaffirming Canadians’ right to engage in open, respectful, and lawful debate about Israel, its government policies, and any political ideology. In its response to NCCM on October 16th, the Minister of Public Safety reaffirmed that the Report is not intended to suggest that all criticism of Zionism or Israel is antisemitic, nor to limit or discourage lawful political expression and public debate. While this clarification is a step in the right direction, many in our community remain concerned about the IHRA definition and how it may be applied in practice to chill legitimate political speech, even though the federal government states that it is non-prescriptive guidance and does not restrict Charter-protected freedoms. Many Canadians have lost their jobs for innocuous statements critiquing Israel. We’ve taken many of these cases to court to protect their rights and have won. We will continue to advocate for the protection of civil liberties, freedom of expression, and the right of all Canadians to engage in legitimate political debate without fear of having their views unfairly characterized.

I rarely agree with @Roman_Baber but I do give credit where credit is due Unlike some of his @CPC_HQ colleagues, when he addresses antisemitism, he doesn’t make it all partisan And in this case, he is spot on @iamIqraKhalid should be jettisoned from the @liberal_party caucus
Chair of the House of Commons' Justice Committee, the Committee I sit on, @iamIqraKhalid, admiring a map that wipes the Jewish state of the map. How soon till the riots we see in France & Belgium erupt in Canada?

I’ve given a lot of thought to this year’s race for Mayor of Toronto Sometimes in medicine, our patients have to endure pain in order to have hope for the future Toronto, we face the same choice Read it here in my latest on Substack hershlberman.substack.com/p/…

With respect It is disingenuous to post a third party mockup of a statement potentially made by the Canadian government that claims that the statement says something it does not The govt β€œstatement” does not say that antizionism is not antisemitism @nccm
Important clarification regarding Government of Canada’s position via @nccm

Assuming the statement is authentic, it simply says that not all criticism of Zionism etc.. is antisemitic Just as not all criticism of Muslims is Islamophobic BUT Just as being anti-Muslim is Islamophobic, so Antizionism itself is antisemitism Both are examples of racism

With respect, could you please clarify? Are you endorsing Brad Bradford? The reason I ask is that I’ve been told that endorsements from racists tend to drive people away from the person being endorsed I wanted to make sure whether that was what you had in mind
I know that we can count on Olivia to stand up for people, and their human rights and their dignity and wellbeing. It's so important that everyone gets out to vote on Monday October 26th Olivia. Or we could get stuck with a mayor we do not want and cannot afford. Brad Bradford will say anything to get elected. He flip flops. He cant be counted on. We can't trust him. We know who @oliviachow Chow is. So please make sure you go and vote for Olivia. A Mayor we can trust.

Given her performance in this video and the allegations coming to light about her behaviour right after the October 7 massacre in 2023, it is my opinion that @BravoDavenport does not meet the minimum standards required to represent all her constituents and should be defeated

Missing from the discussion was any examination of the recurring figures behind demonstrations involving antisocial or unlawful conduct, or the astronomical cost of policing them. πŸ“Έ Oct 15, 2026 #Toronto #ProtestMania

The college of Teachers is clear: With a position of power over students, real or perceived, educators must avoid actions that could be construed as intimidating Not to mention, her affect and behaviour fall short of the standards expected of an teacher

With respect Anything posted online is by definition public domain It would be negligent of a police service to ignore online posts If people don’t want to attract the attention of the police, perhaps they should not post hate speech or threats

Interesting read Frankl’s β€œ Man’s Search for Meaning”, born out of his experiences in concentration camps during the Holocaust, are what a lot of the psychosocial work we do in #PalliativeCare is based on Small book Big message
In 1942 Viktor Frankl was sent to a Nazi concentration camp. Before his arrest he was a respected psychiatrist in Vienna with a family and a manuscript that represented years of work. At the camp his head was shaved, his clothes were taken, and he was given the number 119,104. One of the hardest moments came when the Nazis found his manuscript and burned it in front of him. He had been offered a visa to the United States, but his elderly parents could not go with him. He chose to stay. He was moved through several camps, including Auschwitz and Dachau. As a physician he watched the people around him. Physical strength alone did not decide who survived. Some who looked healthy declined quickly. Others who seemed too weak continued. When prisoners lost all hope, they sometimes deteriorated rapidly. Frankl returned again and again to a line from Nietzsche: β€œHe who has a why to live for can bear almost any how.” Although the manuscript was gone, he began reconstructing it in his mind. He pictured himself after the war, standing in front of students and explaining what he had seen. He also thought constantly about his wife, Tilly. He had no way of knowing whether she was alive, but remembering her helped him continue. He tried to give the same sense of purpose to other prisoners. He would ask who was waiting for them outside or what work only they could finish. When the camps were liberated in 1945, Frankl weighed 85 pounds. Then he learned that his wife, parents, and brother were all dead. The family he had stayed for was gone. Within nine days he recreated the manuscript the Nazis had burned. The book became *Man’s Search for Meaning*. Early publishers rejected it. Readers gradually found it. It became one of the most influential books of the twentieth century. Frankl remarried, raised a daughter, climbed mountains, and continued working as a psychiatrist and teacher until his death in 1997. The Nazis had taken his possessions, destroyed his work, and reduced him to a number. They had not taken away his ability to search for meaning. He entered the camps with a career, a family, and a manuscript, and emerged having lost nearly all of them. What he carried forward was the belief that suffering does not have to be the final word.

With respect: YL:SHR Criticizing Israel, the government or the IDF is not necessarily antisemitism Making up lies about Israel, the government or the IDF in order to fuel anger and hostility is in fact antisemitism
TL:DR Justice Stewart recently ruled that political criticism of Israel, Zionism, and the Israel Defence Forces is a critique of a political state, ideology, or military actions rather than criticism of Jewish people as an ethnic or religious group. I am not anti-Semitic.

With all due respect It is disrespectful to deliberately misspell someone’s name It is also disrespectful to attribute characteristics to people you obviously know nothing about Please see the thread below And BTW Antizionism is racism xitter.cf/bermanpcmd/status/1723…

My apologies. I meant to say: With respect Making outlandish statements suggesting the IDF would murder Palestinian voters, and accusing the IDF (I fixed your spelling) of killing people trying to get food when the evidence points to Hamas… …is antisemitic
WTAF! Not wanting Palestinians murdered by the IOF, which has already murdered 100s of 1000s of Palestinians, is antisemitic? How did we get here?????
