Maybe the most New Hampshire thing I’ve ever seen 🤣
Our Town Council keeps raising taxes. So I showed up with an English Lord’s wig to speak in *favor* of taxes. ā€œIf you can’t pay your taxes…don’t be poor.ā€

My take on California’s ā€œOne-Timeā€ Billionaire Tax. It’s much worse than it looks. šŸ“‰ Will it pass? Yes, likely. It only needs 50%+1 voter approval. SEIU + CTA have done this before—Prop 55 won 63% in 2016. āš–ļø Will it get tied up in litigation? Almost certainly. Retroactive wealth tax on a tax type CA has never had = due process challenges. Billionaires have the legal budgets for years of fights. šŸ‘‹ But it’s clearly … only the start. The goal is an annual tax, not one-time. And the target is $25m-50m net worth folks, including illiquid foldings (early stage founders raising a Series B). The ā€œone-timeā€ framing is strategic, not terminal. The same coalition (CTA, CFT, SEIU) already has AB 259 written—an >annual< 1% wealth tax at a >$50M threshold<, with plans to go to $25M. It’s been introduced 3 years running. The one-time tax removes the constitutional barrier. Once that’s gone, the annual version becomes a much easier ballot measure. šŸ”ƒ CA Policy Center said: ā€œIf SEIU hopes to keep Medi-Cal spending growing, it may need to place repeated wealth taxes on the ballot—potentially lowering the threshold as billionaires flee.ā€ The real risk for founders: At $1B, you’re taxing ~200 people. At $50M, you’re taxing 23,000 households—including most successful founders on paper before any liquidity event. The rational move isn’t to leave when you hit the threshold. It’s to leave—or never incorporate in CA—before you get anywhere close. āœˆļø Net net: it will make sense to leave before the Series B. Vinod Khosla nailed it: ā€œEven people who don’t expect this initiative to pass are still planning to leave because there will be another one.ā€ The one-time tax is the constitutional Trojan horse. The annual tax — at a much lower threshold — is already waiting inside.

1. It starts with clear beliefs and self-identity. 2. Layering in supporting habits, which come to reinforce that identity on autopilot. 3. And adopting + iterating on hyper-intentional systems & technologies that incrementally make the right choices easier than the wrong ones.

ā˜„ļøLife flows forward when the various systems & environment around you are set up to nudge you - gently but relentlessly - toward your zone of genius. Toward time spent on what you're best at and enjoy most. Momentum rolls downhill daily toward the identity & lifestyle you want.

Progress, for many, still means waking up and having to push - hard. Exerting effort and willpower to move the ball down the field across life, work, health. 🧲 But a prosperous, well-designed existence doesn’t feel like pushing. It feels like PULL! A brief thread... 🧵

America is full of good-hearted, open-minded humans. As much as negative news networks, social media algorithms, & political parties contort their influence to enrage & divide, the fact remains... we hold the immense privilege to live in greatest country this world has ever seen.
To the West Virginians who have put their trust in me and fought side by side to make our state better – it has been an honor of my life to serve you. Thank you. My statement on my political future:

It's the creator's job to hide complexity from the consumer. Take writing. As a writer, your task is to simplify and distill your message until you're left with only the essence of what you're trying to say. The reader's experience should be frictionless. The sentences should flow. The structure should be intuitive. Getting there requires a lot of editing, deleting, and rearranging that the reader will never appreciate — and that's the point. This leads to the Paradox of Creativity: Your work is done when it looks so simple that the consumer thinks they could've done it, which means they won't appreciate how hard you worked.

Every human that has ever lived has been born on planet earth. Approximately 200,000 years ago, modern homo sapiens emerged. We have the immense good fortune to be alive when the first of our species will inhabit another world. Witnessing our ancestor’s wildest dreams ♾
Is money donated to nonprofit charities doing more good per dollar given than federal tax contributions?

We have $30 trillion of debt. Politicians have somehow convinced themselves it doesn't matter, but don't let them convince you of that--it's not true. We are planning to add a trillion more each year. We are on a very bad path, and the only good way out is economic growth.
