A great honor for us @TeamIrembo (alongside ecosystem stakeholders) to host Bill Gates and Gates Foundation leaders for an engaging conversation on digital public infrastructure.
Yesterday, we welcomed Bill Gates and the @gatesfoundation delegation to Irembo Campus, alongside leaders from across Rwanda’s digital ecosystem, including MINICT, RISA, NIDA, BK Techouse, RSwitch, NCSA and C4IR.
We shared how Irembo is building citizen-centred digital public infrastructure by combining accessible services, community insight and technology designed around everyday needs.
Live demonstrations traced complete service journeys, while our discussions explored the potential of AI, including Kinyarwanda large language models, AI-enabled public services and more connected digital life journeys across Africa.
The next chapter of our partnership with the @gatesfoundation will focus on expanding Irembo’s capabilities in AI and Digital Health, and translating Rwanda’s experience into inclusive solutions that can create impact at greater scale.

🎯 Few names embody Rwanda's digital transformation as concretely as Israel Bimpe. As CEO of @TeamIrembo, the leading digital services partner of the Government of Rwanda, he leads the platform that has put more than 100 public services into the hands of Rwandan citizens through IremboGov, and which last year launched IremboApp, a mobile super app delivering essential services in Kinyarwanda, English and French. Before Irembo, he led Zipline's Africa go-to-market, scaling the drone delivery network from one to five African countries, building a career that has consistently sat at the intersection of cutting-edge technology and public service impact.
💡 His message at the Africa CEO Forum 2026 in Kigali captured what makes him stand out. What excites him most, he said, is the question of how to get everyone to work and how to harness the power and potential of technology to deliver real progress for people across the continent. The driver behind it all, he added, is curiosity, because there is still so much left to discover.
🌍 This is precisely the spirit of the new African tech narrative the Forum is putting forward this year. Africa as a tech and data producer rather than consumer. Digital infrastructure built for current realities rather than imported templates. And, crucially, technology measured not by its sophistication but by its ability to deliver tangible outcomes for citizens, workers, and businesses. Today at the World Governments Summit in Dubai, Rwanda’s digital gateway, @IremboGov, was honored with the 2026 GovTech Prize for "Best Government Service in the World."
The award was presented by H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, recognizing the Government of Rwanda’s visionary digital transformation agenda and its success in providing citizens with seamless, reliable access to public services at a national scale.
The milestone was celebrated in the presence of H.E. John Mirenge, Ambassador of the Republic of Rwanda to the UAE, and Estelle Kayitesi Indriets, Senior Manager for Policy and Partnerships at Irembo.
