SwiftUI Tip 💡
Want a photo to develop like a Polaroid?
Fade the image in while animating .saturation() and .contrast().

Upstairs toilet broke like this and caused $120,000 in damage+remediation+repair costs in about 8 hours and ruined my life for a few years. Unfortunately due to a series of circumstances I did have water monitoring alarms that triggered, but not an automatic shut-off...
My neighbor's house flooded while they were away on vacation.
A good samaritan noticed water coming from their foundation and alerted us. Thankfully, I knew the code for their front door because I've checked in on their house before.
I was able to find the source of the flooding... A plastic fastener that connected the water line to the toilet.
It cracked open somehow and caused tens of thousands of dollars in damage. My neighbor has home insurance so hopefully it's all covered.
But it's so frustrating that a little plastic part can fail like that and cause so much damage.

I was recently informed that I am being laid off from Apple. This website's format is too short for something like this in my opinion, but you can find my statement here.

When I ran this code, my app crashed due to getting out of memory! Can anyone figure out how I fixed it?
Context: I was running a manual image data migration to convert 100s of images from png to jpeg, scale them into full-size and thumbnail variants, then persisted their file paths in my database.
I think you need an autoreleasepool and to call context.save after smaller batches.
I'm so glad that graphics programming has become more accessible these days, it felt like a dark art when I was first getting into programming. Low level audio programming on the other hand still seems very niche and kind of impenetrable. Anyone have any good resources?
Resources from ccrma.stanford.edu are helpful. I agree that it is unfortunately a dark art that has not changed in a long time. Definitely look into using JUCE, too!
Here’s the full iOS UI pipeline summary again. Print it out. Get it on a Displate. Share it on your socials for clout. Instead of a shadowy, scary group of lads, now you might see them as new friends. Perhaps you want to get a beer with them. I sure need one.
Frankly, I don’t think I would have been able to code this UI pipeline from scratch. I probably wouldn’t even be able to vibe code it.
Core Animation was the culmination of decades of evolution across both hardware and software. iOS is also a thing. Yeah, rendering’s hard and I’m tired, so please do me a favour and imagine a really nice conclusion, there you go.

Core Animation is my focus of interest, so much so that I recreated it kinda (recreated CoreGraphics & CoreAnimation, just all happens on the CPU), proof:

Ok, next idea for SwiftText: Extend MD->PDF functionality also to non-Apple platforms by writing a renderer in pure Swift.

I came across this repo a while ago and thought it might be worth checking out.

One of my favorite iOS conferences @nsspain takes place from September 17-18 in Logroño, Spain.
Here's how you can win one of the two free tickets: avanderlee.com/giveaway-nssp…
Built a VGA adapter for my Apple //e so I could finally play Oregon Trail in color – at San Francisco, CA

Kind of a shame it's behind a $35 paywall.

Reading his book on Principles of Programming Languages was transformative during my undergraduate studies 35+ years ago. And still most computer scientists know absolutely nothing about semantics, or even that the subject exists...
