🌍 Day 2 of the Africa AI Stakeholder Meeting 2026 | Recap Day 2 opened with our Machine Learning Engineer, Scovia Achan, bringing the room back to the key questions and insights that emerged on Day 1, from access to compute and data to the policy and governance choices shaping Africa’s role in the AI economy. The conversation then moved into the keynote, Charting the Continent’s AI Decade, with Didier Nkurikiyimfura, Director of Emerging Technologies and AI at @RealSmartAfrica asking participants to consider what Africa will say about this decade when we look back ten years from now. He explored the forces shaping the decade ahead; technology, economics and demographics, and what they mean for Africa’s position in the AI economy. From building rather than simply consuming AI, to turning Africa’s diversity into an advantage, developing talent, expanding access to compute and shaping governance frameworks, the keynote put forward a vision centred on African agency and impact. 🚀 The discussion continued with the panel on the Perspectives on AI Governance, bringing regulators into the conversation on what it takes to translate continental AI frameworks into practical national action. Participants then moved into three Policy Sprints, tackling some of the most critical questions for Africa’s AI future: 🔹 Rethinking Digital Sovereignty - examining meaningful control over data and compute. 🔹 Governing Compute in Africa - exploring access, financing, taxation and cross-border data flows. 🔹 Building African AI Capacity - looking at skills pathways and institutional readiness. The sprints moved the conversation towards concrete recommendations and design options that can feed into the meeting’s outcome documents and the Blueprint process. The day closed with Consolidating Insights into Action, as speakers took the floor to reflect on the conversations and consider what these insights could carry forward into national processes. 👏 A special thank you to everyone who made these conversations possible, our participants, co-conveners, @Network_Centers, @law_innovation_, and our partners @Meta, @HiveAdvisory, @QhalaHQ, @IDIAfrica_, @hub_adr, and ITALANTO. Your contributions, perspectives and collaboration continue to shape the conversations that will inform Africa’s AI future. 🌍🤖 #AISM2026 #AfricaAI #AISCA #AIStakeholderMeeting #AIGovernance #AIInAfrica

Today, regulators came together for a Practical Regulators Peer Learning Session convened in partnership with @Meta and @hub_adr, setting the tone for tomorrow’s Africa AI Stakeholder Meeting. The discussions moved beyond theory, exploring the evolving AI landscape, AI regulation and data protection, regulatory sandboxes, and the reality of “one technology, many mandates” including how different regulators can navigate their respective roles and work together. The session also included a practical workshop, giving regulators an opportunity to work through real regulatory questions, exchange experiences, and learn from one another. #AfricaAI #AIStakeholderMeeting #AIGovernance #ResponsibleAI #AIinAfrica #AfricanAI #AIRegulation

On the #DayOfTheAfrican Child, digital access without digital safety is not empowerment. African children face cyberbullying, grooming, exploitation & #AI-enabled risks as they go online faster than protection systems keep up. Policy promises are not enough. Governments must act, platforms must be held accountable, and children must be heard in shaping their digital future. Read more 👉 tinyurl.com/yrnz6emp #DigitalRights #DAC2026 #InternetFreedomAfrica
