When Ross Greer was still in short trousers, home educators were resisting the authoritarian Scottish state. Those most vociferously opposed to #homeed are primarily #rentseeking #vestedinterests, and schools are now failing even more alarmingly than my commentary from 2001.
Late-stage anti-home ed amendments to the Education Bill (sneaked in stealthily with zero consultation, causing fear and alarm to our community) may now have been withdrawn, but it's clear grandstanding Greens don't want any child to escape state indoctrination. #homeeduphobia
They should not underestimate our resolve to protect our children from state overreach. Fix your own failing system before attacking #homeeducation.
The authoritarians are still determined to remove #Article8 rights from #homeed children & families. #Namedperson judgment and Aidan O'Neil KC opinion should give pause.

Today I spoke during the Second Reading of the Children's Wellbeing and Schools Bill in the House of Lords today. It contains vastly authoritarian measures to clamp down on home education under the pretext of safeguarding, but actually will cause great harm (1/5). @LabourList
It's time to pause and reflect on the Children's Wellbeing and Schools Bill, contravenes ECHR Article 14 according to KC Aiden O'Neill.

How far #MorayCouncil has fallen. They seem to forget that the law applies to them and that their local #homeed policy must be compliant with overarching legislation inc #namedperson judgment. Complaints are stacking up.

@scotgov 's #homeeducation guidance is an underwhelming update from previous version. Regardless of content, it is outranked by 1980 Act, #GDPR #HumanRightsAct #EqualityAct
#SQA is the barrier, there are other options for (arguably superior) qualifications. Best to avoid the widely discredited #CfE and data-scraping #GIRFEC.

#SaraSharif was not a hidden child. As in the tragic case of Victoria Climbié, she simply fell through the gaps and was failed by services involved in her life. Concerns had been raised and seemingly not acted upon within a multi agency framework #saveathoughtforthechildren

Reasons for home educating may offer some insight.
Schools are seen as outdated institutions & unsafe spaces that fail to meet needs & penalise parents for prioritising children's health, safety & wellbeing. Enforcing state outcomes at the expense of rights is not education.
