Supporting foster carers is important.
What is consistently under-supported is the work that stops children needing to enter the care system at all... @everychildmatters #saveathoughtforthechildren
The Government’s ambition to recruit 10,000 more foster carers is an important step in the right direction. But recruiting more foster carers is only part of the solution.
We also need to look at the system around them.
We need better support, smarter use of technology and easier access to information, services and resources. We need to remove the barriers preventing good people from becoming foster carers and make sure those already fostering feel supported, valued and equipped to give children the best possible care.
There are incredible people across this country who genuinely want to open their homes, share their lives and give a child the love and stability they deserve.
So....we need to make that possible.
Let's not just recruit 10,000 more foster carers. Let's build a system that makes those 10,000 opportunities truly life-changing.
Children in care are still children

Guidance for home education isn’t the same across the UK, so it’s really important to make sure you read the information that applies specifically to your nation. England, Wales, and Scotland each have their own legal frameworks, expectations, and official documents.

For those following the Public Office Accountability Bill journey.
Monday 12th October 2026 is the
first day of "committee stage".
This can be viewed from the oublic gallery if you wish to attend in person, or via Parliamemt TV (i have attached the link below).
During day 1 of the committee stage in the House of Lords, members begin a detailed, line-by-line examination of the bill.
Proposed amendments are published in order in a document called the "marshalled list".
Government Whips will draw up a suggested grouping of similar amendments for debate or individual peers can object to these groupings if they want an amendment debated separately.
It is scheduled as the last topic of the day, there is no time limit, so it is expected to be a lengthy session.
Thank you to all who support @NowHillsborough

First and foremost, we must aim to reduce the numbers of children entering care - unnecessarily and through lack of appropriate support.
The removal of children from loving homes is likely due to circumstances or unsupported environments...

I've always been very clear about where I stand on residential care.
First and foremost, we need to invest in recruiting and supporting more foster carers, giving more children the opportunity to grow up in safe, stable and loving family environments.
But let's be clear. Residential care will always have a place for children who need it, and when it does, it must provide the highest possible standards of care, love and support.
I have nothing against people running successful businesses in children's social care. But I do have a problem with vulnerable children becoming a means for individuals and companies to make millions in excessive profits.
There has to be a limit on profit when public money is being spent on caring for vulnerable children.
Children are not commodities. Their childhoods are not business opportunities.
We should be investing in children's futures, not building fortunes from their vulnerability.
And on that, I will not compromise.

Recent update by @expertlegal on the legal challenge about reducing rights to family life.
The challenges facing care-experienced children & young people in England often begin long before they leave the system. Placement instability, cost-driven decisions and limited genuine choice while they are still looked after and restricted access to truly independent advocacy
Hundreds of young people in our care system are being forced to choose between full-time education and a roof over their heads.
One young person I know has a flat funded by the local authority, with a charity topping up the cost. He’s building friendships and continuing his education. He’s finding his feet.
Now they want to move him miles away into a shared house with strangers who haven’t been vetted. Why? To save money.
How can we expect young people to thrive when we keep taking away their foundations?

When you home educate, people may try to put you off. Most of the time, their opinions come from not understanding what home education actually is. You’re doing what’s right for your child, and that’s what matters. Stay confident. #homeeduk

Sometimes schools do not understand Home Education & try to convince the family that it is a bad idea, going as far to suggest ‘it will be detrimental to the child’, or that it ‘is illegal’. Home education is legal & a family's chosen option to strengthen their child's learning.

You don't need permission from the school or local authority (unless it is a special school), attend a meeting before deregistration, give any notice of deregistration or prove that educational arrangements are already fully established before deregistration.
We should be asking what the child protection system does to people — families and practitioners alike — and how that experience may influence professional practice...
