This DNC roll call is so much joy!!! Diverse, energized, talking reproductive rights, environmental justice, and needs of workers. And the music is 🔥. The contrast is stunning.
There are big losses (M4L on school board) and big wins. Biggest for me? Angie Nixon! It gives me hope to know THIS woman represents me/us in the shit show that is Florida state politics. These pics remind me why I love her - hard working, deep loving, speaking truth to power.

The STOP WOKE Act is officially DEAD. Florida is the state where the STOP WOKE Act went to die! – at Florida, USA
U.S. District Judge Mark Walker previously ruled the law is unconstitutional. That decision was upheld by an appeals court in March. news4jax.com/news/politics/2…
Why does our country need to hear the ‘wisdom’ of a wrestler? And other speakers have spewed nothing but lies. Big, nasty, harmful lies. And the members of the cult are wearing fake ear bandages - or whatever the hell that is. It’s a f*cking circus.

Such an important point by @washingtonpost Philip Rucker on MSNBC: the appearance of unity at the RNC is because all the anti-MAGA elements have been purged. Do we forget why Trump needed a new VP? There’s no Mitt Romney. No Liz Cheney. No Michael Steele. Those reporting on the veneer of unity should be constantly noting this.
While I’m beyond excited about grants for artists rolling out in Jax, I’m disappointed in the $1million+ cut to Cultural Council funding from our city. In a year when our regressive Gov. slashed arts $ to zero this cut from COJ is devastating, especially for smaller arts orgs. 🧵
I do understand funding is still up from previous administrations, but that’s not saying much as Jax was near the bottom for cultural investment. I applaud investments in housing and other critical areas of community care, of which the arts are an important part.
But I can bet we will all continue to lean on art and culture to inspire us, educate us, lift up our histories, make us look cool to visitors, help us attract & retain talent, give kids a space for belonging, and give ways to mourn, heal, and celebrate what it means to be human.
It’s because I love my city and many who are leading us that I believe critique is important. In the big picture of COJ budget $1 million isn’t much, but for the arts sector at this moment it is significant.
Yet, we will see another huge increase to JSO and fat cat billionaire developers are laughing at us all.
I’ve not been a fan of spending on a new stadium. BUT I did appreciate how vocal residents have been about the linked community investment. I’m NOT shocked that it’s this funding-for THE CITY-that our council is rejecting. As a body, CC doesn’t listen or care. This is not new.

I wish people clamored to endorse the rights of our neighbors the way they do for the Jags. It’d be inspiring to see biz, government, philanthropy say WE ENDORSE ‘the right of our Transgender neighbors’ or ‘uplifting our public schools’ or ‘Black lives matter’ or ‘cease fire’.
Yesterday I learned of friends leaving: artist/educator leaving because it’s a mess; a wonderful older couple moving north because FL politics and lack of safety for their Trans grandson; a black, queer couple who feel unsafe; a professor who can’t teach truth. I’m mad and sad.

Y’all out here acting like Trump is Mandela. Cut it out.
Everytime a person of color is over charged or sentenced harshly or shot in the back by police….yall ask silly questions like why did he run?
Trump broke the law. 12 peers held him accountable.
How you like them apples.
