June is #cdkl5 awareness month so I thought I might do a mini thread on this rare genetic condition which affects my sister. CDKL5 stands for cyclin-dependent kinase-like 5. Also known as CDKL5 deficiency disorder (CDD).

This is domestic violence. Destruction of property is also domestic violence. It's intimidation & violent assertion of control over a victim. It can also be, as appears in this case, a means of destroying the victim's independence & ability to escape. He's going to kill her.

"We don't know who deleted the data, we know it was intentional, but we're satisfied it has nothing to do with corrupt management". Uh, how?
Files relating to child, neonatal & maternal deaths at @nottmhospitals was "intentionally/maliciously" deleted by someone who can't be identified. A reminder, if needed, that not everyone in the NHS acts in patients interests & underlines why the scandal needed exposing:

Prediction: the people who intentionally deleted these records to cover up harm/deaths will be treated less harshly than the recent wave of staff found to have accessed records without a good reason.
An independent investigation has found maternity files at Nottingham University Hospitals were intentionally deleted. Sky's Ashish Joshi reports on the data breach

Local gastro CNS very much acting like a medical consultant. 1st point of contact for referrals, arranges and does scopes, scans, biopsies, coordinates MDT etc. All quite uncomfortable to see if I’m honest. Where are the gastro consultants? Where is the line here?

If you believe that the leaders of this trust have no knowledge of who deleted these files then I have a bridge to sell you. This is the culture created by the likes of Hunt, Lansley, Streeting, et al. It is not surprising to anyone who works in healthcare and has raised concerns

She will likely have her funding cut/removed based on the assessment that took place. None of her needs have changed, in fact they have worsened over time. My parents are medical and we suspect that's the only reason she is still alive after a few acute events.

The assessments are set up to fail a significant proportion of the people they should be helping. Our health and social care system has fallen beyond recognition and I don't really know how anyone at DHSC sleeps at night but here we are.

Here I am, scrolling, minding my own business and suddenly a clip of @BenAffleck pops up and he's chatting about CDKL5... (context, my sister has CDKL5 deficiency, rare, no-one had ever heard of it blah blah). Was not on my bingo card for this evening.

Does Physician sex impact on clinical outcomes in close to 1 million patients with an acute medical hospitalisation? Our @JAMANetworkOpen publication led by @propelresearch @JonZipursky @WallisCJD and colleagues suggests that pts cared for by female physicians experienced lower 30-day mortality and readmissions compared with those treated by male physicians. link to paper: jamanetwork.com/journals/jam…

You’re advocating for a role supported by the movement to substitute Drs with ‘advanced practice’ healthcare workers This is driven from the very top of healthcare & has infiltrated every Royal Colleges & NHS trust in the country

Just three years ago we had doctors on £29,384 per year by the way.
UK new minimum wage: £27,456 per year. Higher-rate tax bracket: £50,270. 1.8x difference. In 1997 there was a 5x difference. Mind boggling.

Some musings As an F1 it was generally acceptable to clerk a medical admission in 1 hour to 1.5 hours As F2 in GP I was routinely seeing complex patients with multifactorial presentations, obvs no access to same day investigations in 30 mins with the plan to go to 20 - I refused

15 minutes is the way, sadly far too many still on 10 due to access needs. In a post triage world and patient expectations, complexities just not doable. 10 minutes for dizziness for a patient on cocktail of opioids, BP meds, cardiac hx and neuropathic painkiller.

Schrödinger’s doctors: Simultaneously far too important to strike, and utterly unworthy of being paid and treated fairly. Oh, remind us what happened when your lot banned prison officers from striking? Ah yes, a crippling and perpetual staffing crisis and exodus of experience.
Labour promised to end the strikes. Once again, they’ve failed. Kemi Badenoch is clear that doctors, like the police, should be banned from striking. Patients must come first.

Why didn't you have me on? We offered after you asked and you just ghosted us! Rude!
"I don't think you should be able to go on strike either." @jhansonradio responds to resident doctor @AndrewMeyerson, who defends consultants heading to the picket line because "patients are suffering". @PauletteHamilto | @theJeremyVine | #JeremyVine

Our campaign is about reducing burnout, returning the time we had to actually fix our services and regaining comparable pay. Here's me explaining on GBNews. #DemandBetter
