The Acting District Administrator of Merca City KBS, provides an update on the latest developments and the prevailing conditions in the city and concerns that the Federal Government’s deployment of additional Gorgor units is undermining the peace and stability that have been maintained in Marka.

The conflict in Lower Shabelle has begun, and it started with the killing of a KBS commander from the Jiido clan who was based in Qoryooley District. The killing was claimed by members of the Garre clan, who are also part of the Southwest State administration, following a dispute between the two sides over Qoryooley District. Meanwhile, today, troops from the 14 October Brigade who were on leave and travelling towards Merca came under fire while passing through Buulo Naageey. The attack was reportedly carried out by units of the Gorgor forces that had been deployed to the region and had replaced the 14 October Brigade. A large number of troops loyal to the KBS administration have gathered in Merca city together with the Mootooley forces from the Biimaal clan, who had previously fought alongside the 14 October Brigade. The Gorgor forces deployed to Merca are currently remaining inside their military camp for defensive purposes, while the city itself is heavily occupied by troops. It is unclear how they are expected to operate under these circumstances. They have reportedly requested to be replaced by the command in Mogadishu that originally deployed them. Approximately 80% of the 14 October Brigade have taken leave, with many of them currently in Number 50 and Merca City In Merca, war songs are reportedly being played in Tea Houses and other places where people gather. Virtually the entire city is surrounded by KBS forces and Mootooley militia members, with the exception of the Gorgor base on the outskirts. This atmosphere has reportedly made the Gorgor forces uncomfortable and concerned, preventing them from moving freely and confidently around the city in the same way that members of the 14 October Brigade previously moved around Merca city, even when unarmed.
