Ok I listened via audio and you guys all talked about the pink shirt but I underestimated the pink shirt.

“If you’re defending you’re losing. Any second that you’re spending responding to someone else’s frame is a wasted second of your opportunity to be on offense advancing your frame.” The brilliant @zamosta is no longer active on Twitter, but I convinced him to come on @greatchatpod! We dissect some of the epic Twitter drama from the past week: Valar versus Day One, Factory versus Cognition, Kelly Clarkson versus the keepers of the mechanical bird. And then also tackle some bigger issues, like why does tech suck at telling its story to audiences behind tech? No punches were pulled.

I architect launches for a living, and I don’t think attention is the moat. I just listened to @helen_min & @ashleymayer on @greatchatpod break down the current state of the launch moment and I agree, we have reached a period where we've gotten really good at this and some launches absolutely crush, but attention is absolutely not the moat. Creating belief is the moat. You can apparently hire these very cringe agencies that will help you buy engagement for your launch and get 1M views and 5k retweets on your expensive video, but it’s now anti-signal. You can smell the stink of it from a mile away. Also, too much awareness can now be reductive to your reputation (see: Corgi, others). Engagement maxxxing is truly not the way. Stirring up any generic attention is not the goal of a well-architected launch. The goal is to make the most important audiences to your business *feel something.* To make them sense a shift and have them believe that shift is becoming reality because you exist and you’re solving a problem that you’re uniquely positioned to solve. Attention will only get you so far. The real alpha is in creating belief. episode worth the listen! podcasts.apple.com/us/podcas…
An overcorrection that will be studied for years: "If you build it, they will come" turned into "attention is all you need" 🥴 @ashleymayer and I play Goldilocks on this week's @greatchatpod - tune in tomorrow!

Next @greatchatpod is basically a long version of this tweet cc @helen_min
Hot/weird take: I think we’re getting a little *too good* at startup launches. Everything feels manufactured.

We literally just did a @greatchatpod episode on this very important topic! xitter.cf/ashleymayer/status/210…
This week’s @greatchatpod is one of my favorites! @helloligaya, founder of New Entity, joined the chat to talk about the complicated relationship between tech and SF, and why our industry hasn’t left a physical imprint in the way Wall Street and Hollywood have (the startup billboards don’t count).

THIS. Culture doesn't have to wait on museums or City Hall. It lives in restaurants, venues, galleries, and shops. Started @newentityco to move tech wealth into exactly that. Talked about it on @greatchatpod: podcasts.apple.com/us/podcas…
It’s incredible how much wealth SF entrepreneurs have created and how little of it has gone toward building culture. Where are the great museums, new architecture, music venues, public spaces? Silicon Valley should aspire to leave behind more than ephemeral software.

Loved jumping on @greatchatpod to trade perspectives on tech’s role in building our cities. Thanks so much for having me @ashleymayer!

Twitter is back and better than ever (not controversial) and hey, so is @greatchatpod season six! The always lovely @TaylorLorenz joins @ashleymayer and I this week to discuss doomers at Dreamforce, AI assistant wars, Corgis, and more. Link in comments, advice on rage-baiting in clip.

We're baaaack with a new season of @greatchatpod! @TaylorLorenz joins the chat to break down the players and incentives behind the various AI narratives with me and @helen_min. Is humanity doomed? Do young people actually hate AI?

absolutely LOVED joining my friend @ashleymayer on her pod @greatchatpod to talk about whether (and why!) tech is funny right now
This week’s @greatchatpod is one of my all-time favorite episodes, with friend and comedian @yayalexisgay joining the chat with @helen_min and @macbohannon. We cover a lot a lot of ground (the Chesky hack, the OpenAI merch drop), and then go deep on why it’s so much harder to make jokes about the tech industry today versus prior eras. Spoiler alert: there’s still a way (but you’ll have to listen).

actually a ton of super interesting research on this going back to the 1930s. aura can't survive closeness - the goal is always to appear approachable but still maintain distance and mystery. see: literally every cult leader web.mit.edu/allanmc/www/benj…

I legit didn't realize I had so many feelings about what it means to be a "mission-driven" startup in 2026 until our recent @greatchatpod hang. Tl;dr: today's startups missions are more adversarial, and generally oriented around winning (versus the softer and more idealistic missions of prior tech eras).

Making my debut as unemployed podcaster with the lovely @helen_min and @ashleymayer of @greatchatpod We had a fun conversation on the sf social scene, vibe coding, & developer marketing in 2026 Always great to chat (see what I did there) with these legends
When everyone is a potential builder, what does developer marketing even mean? @mattyp joins us this week to weigh in. When AI coding products don't know who their customer is "you get products that are for everyone and no one at the same time."
