Just heard “Magic Town” by The Vogues on @BoomRadioUK. Not a hit in the UK but regularly played on pirate radio such as the “sweet music” station Radio 390 from the wartime fort Red Sands in the Thames Estuary. Here’s the ad from my schoolboy scrapbook.

Two of my fave DJs from Cap Rad days. From Breakfast to Your Mother Wouldn't Like It. Magic.

Wonderful to see. It's been a long time since Beach Boys Stomp in the 80s, @grahamdene!
Great to hear my old pal @grahamdene at @BoomRadioUK breakfast playing everything from Digging Your Scene to Elusive Butterfly. On launch day yesterday I heard @TwiggyDay play Fleet Foxes then Tony Bennett. How refreshingly eclectic. Good luck also to @NickyHorne + all concerned

This Day: 1979. UBN closed after 9 years. Biscuit factory radio - worker pairs had speaker and volume control. UBN launched commercial radio careers, like @steveallenshow, Dale Winton, Adrian Love, Roger Scott, @NickyHorne, and @grahamdene soundcloud.com/paul-easton/u… #radiomoments
