𝟯.𝟰 𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲. 𝗙𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀. 𝗢𝗻𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁. Today, 55 organisations — convened by @gatesfoundation : announced a joint commitment: that people who speak languages underrepresented in today's AI can use these tools in their own language and voice. It builds on the Foundation's $1B commitment to equitable AI. 𝗖𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗲 𝗔𝗜 𝗟𝗮𝗯𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺. We build sovereign AI infrastructure for real-world deployment , AI that works where the cloud does not. We adapt open models toward Luganda and Swahili, evaluate them for real conditions, and deploy them on the devices people already own, across Uganda, Kenya, Ethiopia and Rwanda. Four areas of work: the open language layer, tracking progress honestly, turning language data into working tools, reaching people safely. Crane adapts, evaluates, deploys and integrates in all four. We made one year today.🥳 @Bronsn4 and I started Crane AI Labs without funding, borrowing what we needed, stretching what we had, and building before anyone could see the institution we imagined. A year later, the work is real. Still early. No longer imaginary. Year two begins.
