The George Pilkington building was named in honour of lay missionary who did the pioneering work of translating the Bible from English to Luganda (1887- 1893).
It was called the "Biscuit Bible"
Why? Primarily because its unique dimensions allowed it to fit perfectly inside an old-fashioned metal biscuit tin.
The wooden chair upon which Pilkington sat to undertake the laborious task remains as an artefact at the @UCUniversity Hamu Mukasa Library.
This evening, I took a walk through UCU Mukono and I was mesmerised by the transformation! I joined Bishop Turker College in 1986-1992, as a staff. In 1989 I joined Makerere as a student, but remained as staff . Today, it looks like a 7 star Hotel, very clean! Congs @UCUniversity
Thank you Mr. Dombo for stopping by and acknowledging the beauty of our campus.š
More is yet to come under the Vice Chancellor's Campus Transformation Initiative (20224-2030)

When the rubber hit the road: UCU Vice Chancellor Prof. Aaron Mushengyezi & Deputy Vice Chancellor of Finance & Administration, Mr. David Mugawe led UCU staff, alongside students, at the Annual Tuition Run 2026.
Thank you all for joining us to champion a great educational cause!š
The UCU Guild Tuition Run was more than just a run!
Today was filled with fun, excitement, and unforgettable moments. From aerobics and the run itself to exciting games, plenty of refreshments, and memorable photo moments, there was something for everyone to enjoy. The day also celebrated excellence, with the overall winners walking away with prizes.
Beyond the fun, we came together for a greater cause, "Supporting students facing tuition challenges, keeping them in class, and building brighter futures".

As they say, āIt takes a community to raise a child..ā
This activity will forever be invaluableā¦ it is always amazing seeing that a studentās tuition problem is not only bore by the child alone but by the community for a shared solution.
I am forever grateful to the @UCUniversity administration and the Guild leadership (specifically the 28th Guild government) @theucuguild for keeping the UCU tuition run alive, as one of the many ways to help our brothers and sisters faced with tuition.
Congratulations š
