Distressingly, @BusinessInsider has published strong journalism from @EmilyStewartM and others about problems in the ticketing marketplace.
And now they're running affiliate link SEO slop for Stubhub and Vivid Seats. businessinsider.com/guides/t…

Spoiler alert: they used Distrokid. (Support @404mediaco and others who do good investigative journalism!)
Anyone can upload AI slop music to anyone's Spotify page. We tested it, and it's trivial to do:

New report: ticket fees + reseller markups cost fans $11B/year. The policy response gaining traction: cap platform fees at 10% and ban above-face resale.
That’s a symptom fix. The real disease is that teams don’t own their ticketing infrastructure. They rent the fan relationship from ticketing marketplaces whose economics run on fees.
There’s nothing inherently wrong with a ticket getting more expensive when demand exceeds supply. The team created the product, owns the inventory and should be able to price it accordingly. They need to balancing revenue against the long-term relationship with fans.
The problem is when brokers and marketplaces sit between the team and fan, capture the upside from that demand, and have incentives that aren’t fully aligned with either side.
And fee caps can actually make that worse for teams: they lose economics without gaining any more control.
Teams need to go direct. When they do, they own the marketplace, the data and the economics. Its incentive is to maximize the lifetime value of the fan, not the fees on a transaction.
Fix who owns the relationship, and you fix the incentives at the root of the problem.

They make way more money than they lose or they wouldn't do it. Whose money r they taking? The fans u say brokers help to get cheap seats. If the scalpers didn't exist, the shows wouldn't sell out so fast & fans would actually be able to buy tickets for the price the artist sets
Randy Nichols retweeted
Have u read those articles? If the secondary market did not exist, those artists would not be forced to things like that. How would you like it if you went to work everyday 40 hours a week, working your ass off and someone in front of a computer gets your paycheck?! That's fair!!

If tickets are lowered to let’s say $100 for floor seats, scalpers would by then up and flip them for 3x or 4x face value. You know that’s a fact. Then they could take a loss on a seat 6 miles away from the stage when they buy those too.

Ticketmaster sucks, but brokers are not the answer. But of course brokers will think they are the answer. It only makes sense. Problem
Is they are the wrong answer.

e.g. EU has multiple primary sellers... an allocation model (vs exclusive vendor monopolies). Primary inventory for an event is frequently split across multiple official ticketing agents (venue box office, promoter; regional/country platform).

If it weren't for scalpers, Bruce could have listed tix for $200. Dynamic pricing/Platinum only exist because of scalpers. How can it be that scalpers make thousands in profits on a show w/out ever lifting a finger 2 put that show on?

@forcemm will also tell you that brokers are "feeling the squeeze" from these types of shows as if a single legitimate broker bought this garbage.

As proposals to cap resale prices are gaining steam across the country, predatory resellers are getting more dishonest in their opposition. Notice that in this flyer from California they don’t tell you what the bill actually does, because it’s extremely popular!

Honest broker=oxymoron. Before the internet brokers used to bribe box office workers and hire homeless people to stand in line to buy tickets. A bot is just a modern day version of that, but much more efficient.

Often these tickets are bought up by the CEO of Stubhub. He buys them through a hedge fund and the Stubhub gives him a discount to sell them on their platform.
xitter.cf/WestHarlm/status/20770…
STOP USING Stubhub!!!
This is Eric Baker. He is a piece of shit human whose greed has no limits.
You should avoid his companies at all cost. He has been cheating you.
He is the founder of Stubhub. He also has a hedge fund that buys blocks of concert/sports tickets before we can and then flips them to us at crazy prices using Stubhub as the seller. Stubhub then gives him reduced fees on these scalped tickets.
I hope Stubhub goes bankrupt and investors lose everything. Shame on the board for allowing this bullshit.
Watch this clip and if it doesn't make you throw up in your mouth, then I don't know how to help you.

The worst part that nobody is talking about is how they can leverage their inside knowledge of undelivered orders.
With that intel, they could create short squeezes on every market where they see an abnormally large amount of undelivered sales close to the event.

@ScottFriedman3 stop going after artists and start at the top! The cuts made by this administration have made it more and more difficult to predict weather. This with cuts to climate change programs are the real issue. Not the artists!! cc: @forcemm
