The SNP Government must finally prioritise healthcare in rural Scotland.
The Scottish Graduate Entry Medicine (ScotGEM) is designed to focus on rural medicine.
However, of the 47 graduates who completed the programme in 2025-26, only seven were allocated to NHS Dumfries and Galloway, with many others going to health boards in central Scotland.
Rural communities continue to face challenges recruiting and retaining healthcare professionals. The Scottish Government should do more to ensure that programmes such as ScotGEM deliver doctors to the areas they were intended to support.

⛽️ Fuel prices are too high.
Labour’s plan to raise fuel duty in January will mean even higher costs for families and businesses.
This week Kemi, Shadow Transport Secretary @RicHolden , @RussellFindlay1 and I met a major road haulage company in Paisley, hearing about the pressures ever increasing prices are causing.
👉 The @Conservatives are clear - Labour must not raise fuel duty.

I think @StephenFlynnSNP will come to regret this personal attack on @willie_rennie.
As convener of Holyrood’s Transport Committee, Rennie has a duty to question ministers and demand answers. That includes questions about Alexander Dennis, island flights and a gas leak on a ferry.
Flynn’s response? Dismiss it as “faux outrage”. What arrogance.
Being a minister means answering to Parliament. If Flynn resents that, he’s in the wrong job.
And judging by his performance so far, he’s plainly not up to it.

“A huge step change” 💛
We look forward to continuing our work with Professor Anthony Chalmers, co-Director of our Scottish Centre of Excellence, who will be leading an expert review into what is holding back progress for brain tumour patients.
The review is one of several measures announced this week aiming to speed up the route from research to treatment.
Prof Chalmers is an internationally recognised clinician and researcher devoted to treating brain tumour patients and finding new treatments, based at the @UofGlasgow.
He says the announcement offers “genuine hope” that desperately needed breakthroughs for brain tumour patients will be able to take place.
"I’m deeply honoured and extremely excited to have this opportunity to help improve outcomes for patients with brain tumours through a properly resourced national initiative,” he adds.

A Reform UK Scotland candidate has called the party 'Sub-standard, underperforming, underwhelming, and unelectable'.
Those on the inside are telling you what they are seeing. This is not the party to stand up to the SNP and carry the flag for Unionism and Centre-right politics.
A Reform UK official has shared advice on how to pass party vetting by deleting social media posts supporting Tommy Robinson.
It's part of an undercover investigation inside Reform UK’s political operation that has found senior party officials saying they have to “defend the indefensible”, with Nigel Farage told he was “protecting” one Reform candidate from being sacked for allegedly racist views.
ITV Exposure gained unprecedented access to Reform’s Westminster headquarters, sending in an undercover reporter inside the party in January 2026, where she worked as a press officer. She secretly recorded conversations between Reform officials as they dealt with multiple accusations of racism by Reform councillors and candidates.
Reform UK told us: "Not all individuals covertly recorded by ITV are members of Reform UK. Where members, activists and councillors have clearly behaved inappropriately, investigations have commenced. In some cases, there have been suspensions and due process must be followed.
"Reform UK has improved and prioritised its vetting procedures, but from time to time, a handful of individuals who do not share our values will initially make it through vetting. This is the same for all organisations.
"There is no room for racism in Reform UK. We always respect due process of investigations and whilst these are ongoing it would not be appropriate to comment on individual cases."

I recently asked the Scottish Government how it plans to ensure that proposed food price caps do not lead to food shortages or increased reliance on imports. The Government responded that it is considering the proposals through "robust evidence" and engagement with stakeholders, but no final decisions have been taken.
Farmers, food producers and other stakeholders have already raised serious concerns about the unintended consequences these measures could have for Scotland's food supply chain, domestic production and food security.
The Scottish Government must listen to those concerns and abandon these proposals.

Four steps forward for the brain tumour community 💛
We welcome today's commitments to change the story for brain tumour patients and thank Archie Goodburn for his tireless campaigning to bring this issue to the attention of the Prime Minister.
Andy Burnham has set out four steps which aim to speed up the route from research to treatment.
1) An immediate expert review, reporting within three months, assessing what is holding progress back
2) A national action plan for getting new treatments out of the lab and to patients, faster
3) A new national brain cancer clinical lead to drive this work forward, appointed by the Department of Health and Social Care
4) Accelerate an MHRA review of rules for medicines treating rare conditions, shortening it from three years to two
The Government has listened to the voices of patients and families and recognised the urgent need for change.
This is an important moment, and we look forward to building on this momentum to deliver meaningful progress for everyone affected by a brain tumour.
