Brodie MacGregor was murdered by her partner, a man with previous convictions for violence who was awaiting sentence for assault. She called 999 and said he had attacked her. Police came to her flat, then left her there with him. Hours later, she was dead. Colleagues from every party in Parliament are determined, as I am, to change how we tackle violence against women and girls. That is why we are working with The Sunday Post's It’s Time campaign to establish The 'It’s Time' Commission. We need to ask some hard questions. Are warning signs being missed? Are dangerous repeat offenders being dealt with properly? Are the police getting the training and resources they need? Why are cases taking so long to get to court? What happens when offenders are released? And what more can we do to prevent violence in the first place? The point is not to simply have another discussion. We want to listen to victims and families, challenge the people responsible for the system and come out with a list of specific actions that can command support across Parliament. Families have been told too often that lessons will be learned. Putin is testing how far he can go. Russian drones have entered Polish airspace. Britain and our NATO allies must take the warning seriously. We need to rearm and strengthen our defences. That means investment, faster decisions and the industrial capacity to deliver. This is sensible, urgent action to deter a war we all want to avoid. It needs to happen now. Churchill was 65 when he became Prime Minister in 1940 and led Britain through its gravest crisis. Now @cajardineMP is reportedly being told she’s too old to stand again—at 65. What nonsense. Parliament needs people with experience, not a party treating it as a reason to push them out.

Grieving parents want to know why their babies died. The SNP’s proposed maternity review could leave those deaths outside its scope. What an insult. You cannot learn lessons from failures you refuse to investigate. John Swinney must listen to these families, examine what went wrong and give them the answers they have fought for. Someone who has worked and paid taxes for 40 years should know the system will be there when they lose their job. Someone fit to work should be expected to find one. @KemiBadenoch’s proposal gives people six months on full benefits to find work. After that, their record of work and contribution counts. People who genuinely cannot work because of serious illness or disability remain protected. That is fair to those who need help and those who pay for it.
