if you're a dev there's a habit you need to curb if you want to be good at product on your team if another engineer is trying to do something that introduces a lot of complexity/problems you should say "just don't do that" but when it comes to users this mindset does not lead to a good product - they aren't your team member and you do not have context into their decisions you have to just make stuff work, even if you don't agree with the stuff

I've shared this before but even though I agree with @thorstenball that these are the basics, I feel like they're simultaneously so uncommon that this post could be called "How to be a 10x engineer". registerspill.thorstenball.c…

🎉BERT Semantic Interlinker App V2 (Free App)🎉 Free @streamlit App to Semantically Interlink Pages using Sentence Transformers. Last week @me__emi__ tagged me in this excellent article wordlift.io/blog/en/master-t… that she had linked to the original version of the BERT Interlinking App. I checked the stats and over it had 17,000 unique visitors with no promotion at all. I spent the last week re-writing it from the ground up with a ton more features, visualisations and polish. What's the Point? “There are tons of page Interlinkers out there, why not just use those?” It’s a fair point, this script doesn’t even use anchor text or link metrics when making recommendations. What it does differently is make logical connections to pages that will please your users and increase revenue. (link to related helpful content). Take the Page 'HP Original Ink' Using this interlinker it'll match to the following related pages: 'Printer Ink' 'Printers' 'Printer Paper' Even thought syntactically those words are a million miles away from each other. I originally wrote it to surface User Guides / Buyer's Guides at a category level. But realised there are so many other uses for it. ✅ Interlink Related Products Within Category Text ✅ Show Related Categories ✅ Surface Related Content to Assist Conversion (Blogs, Buyers’ Guides, etc.) ✅ Display Products Most Closely Related to Category Page for Increased Relevancy ✅ Feature Related Blog Posts If you haven't tried it before I'd love you to give it a go, if you have tried it before you should revisit it as it's been completed overhauled. (The original version actually had a bug that prevented a large number of results from being returned 🤦‍♂️) Full Write Up with New Features Instructions: leefoot.co.uk/portfolio/bert… Direct Link to the App: bertlinker.streamlit.app/ Retweets for reach most appreciated!

Coding is writing. In writing, these things matter: ✅Clarity ✅Brevity ✅Spelling ✅Formatting ✅Punctuation ✅Terminology ✅Consistency ✅Grouping related concepts ✅Breaking ideas down into digestible pieces So these things matter in coding too.

“I don’t need Tailwind. I’m a CSS expert.” ⚠️Will your docs will be as comprehensive? ⚠️Will your class structure will be as thoughtful? ⚠️Will your dev tools and extensions be as robust? ⚠️Will your build automatically exclude unused styles? ⚠️Will new hires potentially already have experience with your approach? ⚠️Does your entire dev team have a shared understanding of your CSS strategy? The answer to these questions is almost certainly "No." So, the most likely outcome of not using Tailwind...is creating an inferior alternative to Tailwind.

Problem: TypeScript optional fields reduce type safety. Why? Because an optional field can't specify when the field is optional vs required. Solution: Consider a discriminated union instead. This makes the differences between types explicit, so TypeScript can enforce it.

🌶️ Hot take: Never implement an "all caps" design by making the letters all caps. Use CSS (text-transform: uppercase;) instead.

Wouldn’t it be fantastic to be able to search for a component and check how it’s designed and implemented across design systems out there? Component Gallery (component.gallery) and Storybook Encyclopedia (storybook.js.org/showcase) allow you to do just that. #design #ux

This was an excellent article on the helpful content update by @MarketMuseCo. I really liked how they gave thoughts on each of the helpful content update questions. Covering this for NL this week. Definitely worth a read! blog.marketmuse.com/deconstr…
I once stared at a piece of code for 15 minutes trying to figure out what "par" meant. Eventually I realized it was "parent". Someone saved 50ms by not typing "ent". The savings was paid for by 15 mins of frustration. Don't abbreviate. Thinking is more expensive than typing.
