It’s unfair that hard work isn't rewarded. It’s unfair that volume is a proxy for ability. It’s unfair that certain culture patterns get penalized. It’s unfair, it’s real, and it’s ultimately your problem to overcome (don't rely on someone else to save you).
Luddites, as far as the eye can see. It boggles the mind how you can love computers and not be amazed at what we've made them do. Harness the intelligence bloom for the good of mankind! Make computers better and more beautiful by using what they can now do to assist you!
Every day, imagine what grocery items you might want to buy, ever in your life. Record them in an infinitely growing list.
Once a week, go through this list with your family and spend ~10m discussing each item.
Congrats, you now plan groceries like most orgs plan software.

A mistake many early managers make is giving every bit of feedback they see possible.
Giving good feedback is just as much about what you don’t give feedback on as what you do give feedback on.
If you give feedback on everything you see, actions become risk, and you incentivize all sorts of undesirable behaviors.
There’s nothing more emboldening to a direct report than making a mistake in front of their boss and knowing their manager will never mention it ever.
