The way ‘consent’ has become a moral buzzword that folks drop whenever they need to strengthen an argument is so insidious and needs to be studied. It INSTANTLY adds ethical weight and pressure even if it is NOT applicable and it scares people into panicked apologetic compliance.
i've said it before but there has to be a thinkpiece somewhere on how the medical / criminal paradigm of consent has wormed its way into every discussion. wtf do you mean you don't "consent" to someone downloading your fanfic on a site that has a built in download button

Sharing a G-Drive: gray area, just use it to read, nothing more! Sharing it to another website under your name: NOT OKAY, DON'T DO THIS, this is equal to posting fanart without permission for likes, even if you credit the artist.
I'm not going to get into the discourse as to whether it's okay to post an author's work on gdocs without permission, but this? NOT okay. Do NOT repost an author's work onto another platform, at that point it just becomes theft!

if you know nothing of this ship, but want something to read, just know that this is a slowburn enemies-to-lovers romance and when i say enemies, i mean, ENEMIES. at least one of them intentionally kills the other...well, temporarily.
just finished uploaded my current fic (maiev/illidan) to my website and organized it to make the fic easier to navigate!!! i'll post chapter 5 here once it's done (probably monday!) elfsbe.com/2026/10/30/everyt…

"silent consumption is killing off writers" then they weren't writing for the right reasons 🤷🏼‍♀️

to clarify, "for the right reasons" is not to establish morality, it's about sustainability. i'm arguing for writers to create for the sake of it without expectation of recognition as a means to sustain their own creativity and drive.

it's insane to treat the people you want validation from as enemies who are out to get you. have you ever considered that *you* may not be grateful for the readers you have? i'm challenging your desire to blame others for your own insecurities.

AS A FIC AUTHOR I AM STAUNCHLY AGAINST USING GOOGLE DOCS TO SHARE FICS. They should be printed out on long narrow scrolls of old parchment, loaded into small tubes, and sent via carrier pigeon

one thing i really don't like about the constant fic writer discourse is the emergence of an "us vs them" mindset when it comes to fic writers and fic readers because it is so antithetical to the spirit of fandom

ESTO ES VÁLIDO, está bien que compartan el archivo pdf/epub de ao3 con los créditos correspondientes y el link directo a la obra pero NO resuban a otras plataformas trabajos que no les pertenecen
i don't care if you pass around pdfs of my fics or put them in gdrives but please do not reupload on fanfic. net or wattpad or any other alternative reading sites thank you :)

i'm a fic writer, not a reader, so i can say with absolute certainty that this concept of "writing for a void" is extremely blown out of proportion when almost every piece of fanfiction i've put out has some sort of engagement on it, even in a dead tag.
Replying to @elfsbe
Engagement matters to build community. No one wants to write for a void, people wanna talk with readers about what they wrote and how it affected them. It's legitimate and it's how fandoms work. You don't ask this from any other artist, bc y'all see fics as a less than thing

we already had this discourse last week about readers wanting to leave unsolicited criticism. you either welcome criticism to know if your work isn't being engaged with bc it's not good or you write for your own enjoyment and don't give a shit!

but it seems some writers prefer a secret third option that removes any culpability, which is "readers just see us writers as content machines and don't want to appreciate us for all that we give them" do you see why i say this MUST be done without expectation of recognition?
