THIS MASHUJAA DAY, WE CELEBRATE AFRICA'S CLIMATE HEROES.
As Kenya celebrates those whose courage and contributions have shaped the nation, we extend that recognition to the people leading climate action across Africa.
These everyday changemakers are advancing climate solutions, strengthening community resilience and shaping a more sustainable future for the continent.
Today, we recognise the difference they make in our lives and the planet.
Happy Mashujaa Day!

The energy scale alone settles this for me. A mature cyclone releases more heat in a day than national grids produce. Steering one is beyond any technology that exists. Project Stormfury tried for two decades and was shut down.
Tropical cyclone trio stirs claims of weather manipulation online.
'As three separate hurricanes neared North America's coastlines over a single October 2026 weekend, social media users suggested they were artificially engineered, with the first deliberately steered to strike Florida's Gulf Coast. But despite their near-simultaneous development, meteorologists say that all three tropical cyclones -- Isaias, Rachel and Simon -- resulted from natural weather conditions, and that no human-made technology is capable of creating or redirecting hurricanes."

Pavilions are now available at The Oasis at the 2026 UN Water Conference in December. Create a dedicated national platform to showcase priorities, host delegations, promote innovation, and facilitate engagement with governments, partners, and international stakeholders.

This matters. The USD 6.7 trillion water financing gap will not close in plenary sessions. It closes when developers put bankable pipelines in front of institutional investors, and The Oasis is built for exactly that. #InvestmentsforWater

One thing farming has taught me is that hard work alone is not enough.
You can work tirelessly on your farm and still struggle if you don't understand your market, manage your costs, or make the right decisions at the right time.
Farming requires strong hands, a sharp mind, patience, and business sense.
Don't just grow crops. Learn to grow a sustainable business.
Good morning from Aproko Farmer.
3.4% to 10% is ambitious, but the transition window is the hard part. Two to three years of lower yields while certification completes, and farmers carry that risk alone. Reliable transition grants will make or break this target. #FoodSecurity
Labour has increased the amount of farmland given over to organic farming to 10% by 2036
This is good - but for true climate resilience, it must go much further much faster

The +2C NHem number is striking. I've worked on cooling in extreme heat: albedo roofing, radiative films for clear-sky arid climates, and seawater-fed district cooling all exist already. Scaling them is the real bottleneck.
Heading to +2°C above pre industrial NHem next week and IPCC abandoned his not so work, do Elites now stop pretending and now go full feudal oligarchy?

At the high-level EU–UN partnership meeting, @DrRownakKhan highlighted UNICEF’s work in Sokoto State with support from @EUinNigeria.
Through this support, UNICEF continues to work towards a future where every child can learn, stay healthy and grow up safe.
Well put. Shallow plains reservoirs lose far more to evaporation than they deliver as firm yield, while the Ogallala keeps declining. I would add that removal also opens the door to managed aquifer recharge downstream.

On site at INL. Fuel mid-Nov. Criticality planned for December.
In 1953, Rickover said a practical reactor is one that “is being built now.”
MARVEL is coming together at @INL. All major components are on site, and fuel is scheduled for mid-November.
It wasn’t easy. Grateful for the effort, skill, and persistence of the team behind it. The lessons learned will benefit every reactor that follows.

South Africa’s Necsa and Quantum Leap Energy (a subsidiary of US-listed ASP Isotopes) have signed a binding framework agreement for a nuclear-fuel venture.
Quantum Leap Energy will hold ~80%, Necsa ~20%.
The planned facility at Pelindaba aims to produce enriched uranium for advanced reactors, with TerraPower named as a potential future buyer.
No project cost or commissioning timeline has been announced yet, and commercial production has not started.
A notable step toward moving African uranium further up the value chain.

We cannot protect our forests by punishing poverty while ignoring its root causes.
Charcoal burning contributes to deforestation and environmental destruction, but let us ask ourselves a difficult question: Why are so many people depending on charcoal in the first place?
For many Ugandans, charcoal is not a choice made out of hatred for the environment; it is a means of survival in a country where clean cooking alternatives remain unaffordable or inaccessible to many households.
Arresting charcoal traders and burners without addressing the demand, poverty, unemployment, and lack of affordable alternatives will not solve this crisis. It will only punish vulnerable communities while leaving the underlying problems untouched.
However, poverty cannot be an excuse for the destruction of our forests either. Our forests are essential to rainfall, biodiversity, food security, livelihoods, and the fight against climate change. If we destroy them today, future generations will pay a devastating price.
Uganda needs a just and practical transition that protects both people and nature. The government must invest in affordable electricity, clean cooking technologies, sustainable livelihoods, reforestation, and community education. Charcoal-dependent families and workers must be supported to transition rather than simply criminalised.
We cannot demand that ordinary citizens protect the environment while denying them the means to do so.
The solution is neither to sacrifice our forests nor to sacrifice our people. The solution is to protect both.
Protect our forests.
Make clean cooking affordable.
Support communities, not just enforcement.
Deliver a just transition that leaves no one behind.
