Here are two words that should never go together: spiritual and abuse. It’s a diabolical pairing. The Spirit of God hates abuse, uncovers abuse, and cares for the abused. But we often see spirituality distorted and misused to damage a person created in the image of God.

A good thing to read, even if I do say so myself!

“I thought I was the only one.” I’ve heard that phrase from countless survivors over the years. One of the reasons survivor stories matter is that they remind people they’re not alone. What happened to them was not okay. They aren’t imagining it. And others understand. Sometimes healing begins when isolation ends. #RoysReport #TruthMatters #ChristianJournalism

In 1775, a year before the Thirteen Colonies declared themselves free and united, the great English writer Samuel Johnson published an account of his travels in Scotland in which he reflected: "The true state of every nation is the state of common life. The manners of a people are not to be found in the schools of learning, or the palaces of greatness, where the national character is obscured or obliterated by travel or instruction, by philosophy or vanity... they whose aggregate constitutes the people, are found in the streets, and the villages, in the shops and farms; and from them collectively considered, must the measure of general prosperity be taken. " As I scrolled my newsfeeds that highlighted division on the streets of America, I thought about Johnson's observation that everyday life is what truly defines the state of a nation. And, having worked in the media world for decades, I knew that behind every sensational story, there are always more nuanced narratives if you dig down: the divine is in the detail. I wondered, what unites the States today? Beyond scandals, social-media storms, and divisive two-party politics, where can continuity and connection be found? Gingers of America is a 248 page, technicolor portrait of the US at this moment. Arranged around essays based on the common themes arising in the interviews there are landscapes photographs, quotes and the main event are portraits of amazing everyday people. Pre-order the book with a discount (until end of July 2026) before it is released in late summer. gingersofamerica.com

When Jesus met with the Samaritan woman, He crossed the lines between Jew and Samaritan, male and female, pure and impure. He ignored nationalism, racial prejudice, gender bias, and rules for clean and unclean.

Just in case anyone was thinking that this tweet indicated Morrisons dealt with it, they didn’t. They asked for details then ignored us. 24th was the deadline before the fine went up - we couldn’t afford the risk of challenging, so on Christmas Eve we paid £170. Thanks @Morrisons

We often trust others in positions of authority because we assume that those with knowledge, intellect, and skill MUST be trustworthy. But that is not always the case. How often have we seen that the power that comes with knowledge, intellect, and skill can be abused?

This is super helpful and translates out of the internet as _one_ thing to watch out for where ostensibly conservative churches descend into functional cults. A church should equip you to live faithfully in the world, acting as a refuge where necessary.
🧵 1/ One way to grow & sustain a large social media following is to provide secularised people with a “demonised other” - you give them something they intuit as necessary for their own sense of self, and so you also make yourself indispensable to them, as without your warring
