This is exactly the sort of bloviating from sport/media complex personalities who take on zero physical risk in their work that fuels the dangerous sacrificial culture of high-performance sport.
FFS don't valorize players for risking death on the field. Focus on protecting them.

Police in Philadelphia arrested a 78-year-old woman for protesting an Uber Eats delivery robot by standing in its way. Cops charged her with disorderly conduct just for standing in front of a robot on a public sidewalk.
Carolyn Marvin is a retired communications professor who spent decades teaching freedom of expression at the University of Pennsylvania. She said she specifically keeps the sidewalk open and fully accessible for human pedestrians, and that her actions only target the autonomous vehicle.
Marvin has been blocking delivery robots for months to protest the replacement of human delivery workers. She considers her actions to be protected by the First Amendment.

Condolences for your loss. I hope the museum reopens.

There should be some kind of calculator where whenever a billionaire donates some amount of money, you can quickly what percentage that is of their net worth, apply it to your own net worth and see how much of a sacrifice it actually is

Advocates for people with incarcerated family say prisons often cancel visits for what they deem is excessive contact with loved ones. “There are so many other experiences like that where just a simple hug or a peck is constituted as excessive contact.”

I’m sorry, but this isn’t uplifting… this story is an example of organizational (and probably medical) malpractice. Jalen Hurts is lucky to be alive.
Kind of helluva creepy when you are in the middle of making an appointment through the AI “assistant” after troubleshooting for an hour with said “assistant” and then internet miraculously returns.
Just a coincidence, right?
And will it stay working? No one knows!

The Philadelphia Eagles didn’t even care about Jalen Hurts, and you think your job cares about you? Lmao

using generative AI kinda takes the responsibility and risk out of writing, because ultimately it's not you who wrote it, whatever it is, and at the end of the day you can wash your hands of it. it recalls bureaucracy and it's a fetishism of writing. who wrote it? no one
Universities embrace AI as business operation and embrace AI in education as preparing students for the “workplace” with both offering the convenient outcome of a university just being able to ignore everything that is bad about AI.
Other people’s problems as they see it.
The demand that learning in every course be demonstrated via learning assessment has been bad for learning but very good for the corrupt industry that is student learning assessment.
Every teacher prep program covers the basics of lesson planning. Teachers in training practice writing lesson plans way more elaborate than they will ever do once they're in the classroom.
My question is do programs teach how to effectively implement those plans, and why not
Assessments assess the performance of learning—with some of that performance likely pointing toward the acquiring of knowledge and practices that will be sustained and will inform other learning.
But passing an assessment is primarily a practice of passing an assessment.
Passing an assessment & learning are not the same. One semester is not enough to demonstrate learning in the form of that learning taking the form of informing sustained knowledge and practice. Because of time limitations, we inflate the learning value of passing an assessment.

I know I’m privileged in academia being in a tenured position but I get paid the same whether I join the police state or not, so I’m fine with fighting a miserable battle. A ton of what I do exists in misery. Higher ed is miserable right now!
