🚨M1 EBOB Crack: Past support holds up, but bearish trend is strengthening.
💡 Prices have found support in the low $22/bbl handle - key support last seen throughout March and Q2 2026.
🐻 Still, the -DMI is rising while the ADX is now gaining traction above 20 - indicating a strengthening bearish trend. The RSI sits at 38, indicating further room on the downside.

US inflation reaccelerates as underlying price pressures persist.
US September CPI rose more than expected, driven partly by higher energy prices. Headline inflation accelerated to 3.7% from 3.4%, while core inflation increased to 2.6% from 2.4%. Prices also rose across several categories, including recreation, used cars and trucks, education, airfares, medical care and apparel. While some of these increases may reflect tariff-related pressures and higher energy costs, the broader rise also points to stubbornly sticky underlying inflation.
The bond market reacted sharply, with the US 10-year Treasury yield rising 9 basis points on the day, having been down 3 basis points ahead of the release. Meanwhile, futures markets are now pricing in a roughly 50% probability of a Fed rate hike as early as this month with a 25 basis point fully priced in before yearend.

Is China buying US debt thru the backdoor?
The mechanism is real, the Canadian connection is plausible.
The evidence, so far, is circumstantial.
If confirmed, the story would challenge the popular narrative that China's declining reported Treasury holdings demonstrate a straightforward retreat from the dollar.
That would be big.

COLUMN: Oil's long view darkens as Iran war refuses to end
Oil markets initially treated the Iran war as a brief bullish disruption in a long-term bearish trend. But traders are now betting that oil prices will remain elevated through 2028, forcing a rethink of the global inflation outlook.
Eight months into the war, the buffers that helped absorb the initial energy shock – most notably onshore crude oil stockpiles – are wearing dangerously thin. At the same time, the recovery in crude exports through the Strait of Hormuz remains fragile, global refining capacity has been eroded and credible diplomatic pathways to end the conflict appear narrower than ever.
Global benchmark Brent crude futures tell the story. Contracts for delivery in December 2027 have climbed more than 13% since the start of September to $86 a barrel, the highest level for the contract, while December 2026 contracts have gained around 12%.
The Brent forward curve is not a price forecast, of course. But it reflects the willingness of refiners, airlines, commodity traders and asset managers to lock in elevated prices months and even years into the future. In effect, market participants are paying a premium against the possibility that todays disruptions will become tomorrows normal.

Show me a better risk/reward trade today than thermal coal miners.. Russia, Indonesia & China have production issues, India (and Europe) have inventory issues.. and gas is trading at like >US$300/t Newcastle equivalent.
Meanwhile at US$150/t Newcastle the miners trade at 2-3x EBITDA with multi decade mine lives (likely pricing in US$120/t NEWC)... 🤔🤔

You can see that the market is moving towards a framework where: AI capex fears / memory glut / AI payoff questions lead to selling of the various favorites (CRWV, ORCL, MU, SNDK) and if that move becomes large enough, bonds start to rally.
This makes sense to me. The US economy is riding high like a one-legged stool with AI capex just about the entire story for the stock market and for GDP. If the financial vibes wobble, the real economy side is going to wobble too.

What is the expected discounted net cash flow per barrel of remaining reserves after operating costs, sustaining capital and abandonment liabilities @CommodMkt ?
$4/Bbl Reserves: "Oil is the cheapest thing on your screen. And inside oil, shallow water is the cheapest asset inside oil. People just don't want it, don't like it."
"The amount that we pay for these assets in that part of the world, like $4 a barrel on these reserves."
"Somebody wrote a research report and titled it 'Shallow Water, Deep Value.' I love that title. It says almost everything you need to know. It was forgotten."
