Can the NHS be assured that in all hospitals, at all times of day, there is access to safe & effective decision making, thoracic USS & pleural procedures? Perhaps more investigation, deeper understanding and action is needed @BTSrespiratory @UKPleura bmjopenrespres.bmj.com/conte…

🧵 (7/?) Great survey showing the current state of play. More thoracoscopists, more day case procedures, interestingly slightly less thoracoscopy with increasing US guided pleural biopsy. Is National pleural database the future? @AvinashAujayeb @defonseka #UKPleura #UKPS #Pleural

We’re still encouraging abstract submission. …It would be great to see as many of you as possible there. It will once again be a hybrid event with online attendance for those who can’t attend in person. Please do all this via the website at:pleura.org.uk/product/ukps-r…

ERJ: The TARGET trial was a multicentre randomised trial comparing PET-CT targeted pleural biopsy to standard CT-guided pleural biopsy for suspected pleural malignancy. The results do not support the practice of PET-CT to guide pleural biopsies. bit.ly/40HOY6p

Important study. Great data to guide the way we approach pleural procedures during pandemic #PRD2021
Replying to @BristolARU
And here are those results; pleural procedures, including thoracentesis, chest drain insertion, LAT generated fewer aerosols than normal breathing. Total aerosol levels similar to background levels. Time to ditch full PPE for pleural procedures? #PRD2021 @UKPleura

We have known for many years that neutrophils are central to the pathophysiology of bronchiectasis, and neutrophil elastase predict worse outcomes. This trial shows for the first time that directly targeting inflammation may be a beneficial approach for bronchiectasis @nejm

It’s great to see early testing efforts appeared to have paid off @Thushan_deSilva @greenscorpio5 @Madscientist75 @SheffieldHosp @karene_jessop @MajorKirsten1

Huge contrast with a place like Sheffield - where big community testing program early meant detected cases were tracking closely real infections --- and death rate pushed right down, despite some recent uptick.
