Never forgotten ... Patrick Day was one of the brightest lights to have shined in the sport of #boxing. His death was an immense tragedy and the loss of a young man whose life was truly destined for great things beyond boxing. I think of his family often, particularly of his Mom who begged him not to fight, only to see her worst nightmare realized. As talented a fighter as Patrick was, and he was, his breadth as a person, his intellect, and his natural leadership and charisma made me quietly agree with his mother. I asked Patrick to step away when he hit the early bumps in his career ... i thought he was too good for boxing. He bit down, dedicated himself more, and gave boxing his all; too often boxing damages or takes the man who loved it too much. Patrick was the best of the best and he WAS too good for boxing. When i think of my career, i think more of his loss than the HOF ring; a career in boxing IS a mixed bag and brings with it great weight if you care and you pay attention. Few sports or ways to earn a living are more unforgiving or crueler than boxing.
