The bill comes after DAR members voted 1,481 to 984 last month against a measure to keep membership for those "born female" — a decision that opened the door for transgender applicants to join the 135-year-old women's organization.
Four Republican senators are cosponsoring the Daughters of the American Revolution Membership Integrity Act: Katie Britt, Mike Lee, Tommy Tuberville, and Kevin Cramer. The legislation mirrors a House bill introduced earlier this month by Rep. Ben Cline and follows broader Republican efforts to draw legal distinctions based on biological sex in athletics, prisons, shelters, and other single-sex spaces.
