If a man would rather listen to a stranger than to his own minister, the minister has reason to ask what the stranger is supplying. It may be that the young man is foolish. It may also be that he is hungry, and the table in his own house is bare.

We're doing this again. Every proposition of revealed theology is grounded in Scripture. "Christ is Lord" is grounded in Scripture. But if your audience already accepts these propositions, you don't need to prove them. You can simply assume them in your argument. My guess is that Winger doesn't prove "The Bible is infallible" every time he makes a biblical argument, because his audience typically affirms that. When you and your audience agree on a set of propositions, you can then proceed with a logical argument using them. That's what I did.
Yes. He made a point NOT to ground what he was doing in Scripture yet called it Christian and tried to convince others to follow it as a matter of faithfulness. What more do we need than that? The fact he admits it doesn't make it better.

I have been thinking about writing a serious response to this. The author is not totally wrong but sadly it is very clear he does not understand the actual problem and his solution to it further perpetuates driving people away from the OPC.
NEW HORIZONS FEATURE | Where are the Young Men? by Rev. Everett Henes In Christian circles, many wonder how to reach young men in a digital age, and how to encourage them to consider ministry. Rev. Everett Henes contributes to the conversation in this month's New Horizons. Read the full article here: opc.org/nh.html?article_id=1…

My ADHD has a very sophisticated system for evaluating my performance. If something goes well, it was easy and anyone could've done it. If something goes poorly, I am objectively bad at everything.

I'm not envious of many people in this world, but I am of people who made it to four (or five!). We stopped at three, but if we had met earlier, there coulda-woulda-shoulda have been more. Be fruitful and multiply!
Have your fourth kid. Go into debt if you have to. I did (and got out) 😆

None of the BoomerCon “I love the Constitution more than life itself” people on here have ever actually read anything the men who wrote it said. They have zero interest in 18th Century American political thought. It’s all a LARP. They wear the Founders as a skin suit to defend the Warren Court and Civil Rights revolution. You want to know why we cannot have a Christian America? Not because of the Founding Fathers. Because after nearly 200 years, Earl Warren declared anything officially Christian by the government illegal and the Civil Rights Act banned any freedom of association for Christians. THAT is “the Constitution” these people want to preserve.

Rare footage of a 90s PC gamer who just realized he’s still 2 kilobytes short of running Wing Commander after fiddling with AUTOEXEC.BAT, CONFIG.SYS, and HIMEM.SYS for half a day… Kids today will never know.

On our wedding day, these words were prayed over us: “Almighty and ever blessed God, our heavenly Father, place the seal of thy loving approval upon the union of these two hearts and lives in the sacred bonds of matrimony. Enable thy servants, by the gift of thy sufficient grace to be faithful in keeping the vows they have now assumed. Whether in prosperity or in adversity, in sickness or in health, in sorrow or in joy, may their love and sympathy for each other never fail. Into thy holy keeping we now commit them, praying that they may ever live 'as being heirs together of the grace of life’ (1 Peter 3:7). For Jesus’ sake. Amen.” Marriage asks more of us than a 22-year-old and a 19-year-old can foresee. Yet the prayer was never that we would prove sufficient for marriage. It was that God’s grace would be sufficient for us. “...as being heirs together of the grace of life...” Twenty-seven years, by the grace of God. ❤️

Yes, it is anachronistic but nevertheless conceptually correct: Abraham was a Christian. Melchizedek was a Christian. Moses was a Christian. Jethro was a Christian. Abraham and Moses were united to Christ by faith in the Abrahamic Covenant. Melchizedek and Jethro were united to Christ by faith in the Noahic Covenant. They were not saved apart from faith in Christ. They were saved by faith in God's promises fulfilled in Christ. They were Christians before the term was ever used.

I shipped something for the boys today. This one is for the everyday churchman who wants to dress well on Sunday but doesn't have a big budget and has no idea where to start. I built a simple, affordable system: 16 pieces that combine into 26 different Sunday outfits. About $450 all in, roughly $17 a Sunday. More coming. The system is colors and combinations, not brands. I don't care where you get the stuff: Amazon, eBay, thrifting, or grandpa's closet. Use it as a guide. Remove the guesswork. Dress well for Sunday. everydaychurchman.com/

This is the Presbyterian position. Find another tradition if you disagree: The sins of the 2nd commandment include "the making any representation of God, of all or of any of the 3 persons, either inwardly in our mind, or outwardly in any kind of image or likeness of any creature whatsoever."
