Milwaukee Brewers fans showed up to tailgate World Series Game 1 at nine in the morning.
The parking lot gates were still locked. First pitch was ten hours away.
In old Japan, when ten thousand people camp outside a fortress at dawn with iron cauldrons, smoke, and provisions, it is called a siege.
Milwaukee laid siege to its own castle. Out of pure love. With bratwurst and folding chairs.
When reporters told Christian Yelich that fans had been lined up since nine, he said he was surprised it took them that long.
In my land, a general knows the battle is already half won when his people light the morning fires before the gates even open.
Nobody guards a castle like the Midwest in October.

Kelvin Yeboah with that goal makes it 15 goals on the season. He has now surpassed Christian Ramirez’s tally in 2017 (14) to become Minnesota United’s single-season MLS goalscoring record holder. #MNUFC
It’s funny how much emotion and recency bias can factor into all of our opinions. Yes, Yeboah went through a rough stretch. Is he worth bailing on? Absolutely not.

The notion that Belgium has a right to appeal a decision, but the U.S. does not have a right to appeal is a little funny, right? That’s essentially Belgium’s position.
Belgium has been granted the right to appeal against FIFA’s decision to suspend the one-game ban handed to Folarin Balogun, less than 24 hours out from the team’s round of 16 game against the United States.
Sources have now told The Athletic the Belgian federation has formally written to FIFA to appeal the matter, and the right to appeal has been granted.
Both U.S. Soccer and the Belgian federation were asked to make submissions by 5am PST on Monday morning, which has exasperated the Belgians who have not received the decision by FIFA to review, as it is not made public.
A member of the FIFA appeals committee – who does not represent a federation in either UEFA or CONCACAF, so as to avoid any potential conflict of interest – has been selected to hear the case.

A lot of people I respect the fuck out of are telling on themselves right now, showing they have zero clue how international soccer operates, and that FIFA is arguably the most corrupt organization on earth.
They used the exact same rule to keep Ronaldo eligible for this World Cup after his red card.
Nobody said a peep.
They conjured up a brand new rule to bounce Croatia last week. Silence.
But a red card appeal that results in two teams playing at even strength? THIS is the integrity crisis?
This is such an amusing quote because it feels like it’s captured a lot of European opinions I’ve seen online.
“Yeah, red was the wrong call, but it’s bad to correct the wrong call’s effect on the next match.”
🚨🗣️ Thomas Tuchel gives his take on Balogun's suspension being lifted:
"To be clear, it was not a red card. VAR got involved. The decision is made."
"Who overturns this decision and when and on what grounds? It’s strange for me. We want consistency."
"I think it is not a yellow card, Declan Rice. Does France get the yellow card back for Michael Olise, which was not a yellow card?"
"Where does this start and where does this end? Do we appeal (Jarell Quansah red)?"
"Should Harry Kane ask President Trump? Maybe!"
Well well well… someone sounds a little nervous

FIFA pretty much getting this wrong every step of the way is so FIFA.
-Should have been a yellow on the field
-Used the wrong VAR process
-Poor decision to give the red after the review
-Insane to not have a better appeals process
-Horrible process and took too long to suspend the red
All entirely avoidable. Remarkable.
We’re on to Belgium.

Belgium will feel cheated for losing fair and square but we shouldn’t feel cheated losing our top goal scorer to an incorrect use of VAR?
