Replacing a Honeywell VisionPRO IAQ with an ecobee isn’t a normal thermostat swap. The hidden EIM changes everything. I documented the wiring, configuration, testing, and setup:

Inspired by @DanielLockyer, today I chose violence.
I let @ChatGPT walk me through replacing a proprietary Honeywell thermostat system with an @Ecobee Smart Thermostat Enhanced that I got for free from @nwnatural
That meant:
• bypassing the Honeywell EIM 💀
• rewiring the furnace control board
• reconnecting the outdoor condenser
• testing every stage (heat, A/C, fan)
I labeled everything and double-checked every step before making changes, but ChatGPT never led me astray.
The actual wiring and installation process took 20 minutes. The system is now fully operational. 💪
I’ve been wanting to do this for YEARS. Today, AI made a project that felt well beyond my comfort zone approachable.
AMA. Photos below. I did a temp job with some butt connectors, but have some proper Wago 221 connectors arriving Wednesday.
I have a lot of feelings on this, but I’ll just say that resilience and adaptability are important things to develop.
But they don’t really teach those in school and not everyone wants to enlist in the military where they do.
My heart hurts for the people in this spot.
Energy generation by source, 1900-2025. In case you're curious, too.

A missed opportunity for Apple's Homeview was to make a kit option where it was able to replace a smart thermostat in the first place.
24 VAC ought to be enough. And I suppose they could still pivot to this with the right software and hardware kit.
1. Panos is still pumped. At all times.
2. He's making a splash at Amazon. The echos of the Surface aren't a coincidence.

I’m either losing my mind or the coding models from OpenAI and Anthropic are getting noticeably worse.
It started happening by some of the time and now it’s nearly all the time.
The agents will just run off on complete tangents despite clear instructions. Then, when you call them out, they’ll apologize and may or may not do the right thing from there.
It’s starting to feel like human programmers have a safe future.

Wife: when are you going to stop buying domains and start an actual business with one of them?

This is probably because women exceed 60% of the Kindle market. Last I looked, they were close to 70% of the market.
In other words, if you have a Kindle, you're girly. :-P
Same, but went with tinycast. Definitely interested in what Stephen's got going on here though.
Raycast v2 has been really unfortunate and in the day of agentic programming, there's not a good excuse for drifting away from native.
📺 Raycast v2 has sent me back...to Spotlight. And I finally learned about a "hidden" toggle in Shortcuts that completely changes the game. See how I built my favorite Raycast features, in Spotlight: youtu.be/LXKUc6hFTiE
> me two months to my kids: bros, you just wash your ears out in the shower regularly.
> dad, don't you ever get ear infections from water trapped in your ears?
> no, never.
> literally the next week, get an ear infection.
> that gets better and I get another one.
> i'm now on my third consecutive ear infection in two months. fml.
